ENRAGING. Last year, despite de Blasio’s best efforts to prevent bail reform, NY finally “changed things.” Ended jailing for misdemeanors & nonviolent felonies. Since law’s enactment, he’s been aligned w/ the NYPD to kill bail reform. To perpetuate the status quo of mass jailing.
Amazing that @NYCMayor is touting NYC’s record low crime rates that have paralleled a similarly steep decline in pretrial jailing. For weeks, he’s been cherry-picking data to claim falsely that bail reform is making the city less safe. How does he think he can get away w this?
“We believed in New York that we could do things different.” We—advocates & directly impacted people—did until police, prosecutors, Trump-supporting GOP lawmakers, @NYCMayor, & White supremacists aligned to kill change before it even had a chance to prove itself. So cynical.
