One thing they about Jeff Bezos giving $10 billion to "fight climate change" they don't discuss is that he alone will decide who gets funding.

For example, if they want to study if it's good for the climate to ship every retail item individually to houses, they won't get funded.
If they want to study whether or not we need to move past capitalism to solve the climate crisis, because an economic model based on competition that requires endless growth for investors can never reduce consumption...well, they will double not get funded.
If, for example, we had taken that money as taxes and spent it on the same purpose, we could democratically decide how to allocate it, rather than having a billionaire with extremely vested interests decide what science is or isn't valuable.
