One thing they about Jeff Bezos giving $10 billion to "fight climate change" they don't discuss is that he alone will decide who gets funding.

For example, if they want to study if it's good for the climate to ship every retail item individually to houses, they won't get funded.
If they want to study whether or not we need to move past capitalism to solve the climate crisis, because an economic model based on competition that requires endless growth for investors can never reduce consumption...well, they will double not get funded.
If, for example, we had taken that money as taxes and spent it on the same purpose, we could democratically decide how to allocate it, rather than having a billionaire with extremely vested interests decide what science is or isn't valuable.

She gave every ounce of her strength, and risked her life to fight capitalism and create a worker controlled world.

Not mentioned once. Liberal publications always manage to whitewash radical thinkers.

@RevLeftRadio In fact the words "socialism", "communism", "capitalism", "union", "syndicalism", or "anarchism" aren't mentioned. She dedicated her entire life to fight for the left, literally, and the summary we get of her politics? "Proper democracy".

Absurd.

Bill Gates made his money by extinguishing free software and forcing us to pay him a tax just to turn our computers on. This was only possible because the State was ready to violently enforce his "intellectual property".

He didn't created a computer revolution, he destroyed one.
Zuckerberg made his money in the exact same way, of course – by destroying an free social network. A social network was bound to emerge, what Zuckerberg did was prevent it from following open protocols, like email, so just anyone couldn't set up a server to socialize with anyone.
To say these people added value to the world and therefore "deserve" their billions is absurd. They subtracted value, an enormous amount of value, and stymied progress to seize control and extract wealth. Computers and the internet would be more advance if they had never existed.

Universal Basic Income advocates want to give everyone $1k a month.

- your boss will use this as an excuse to cut your salary.
- your landlord will use this as an excuse to raise your rent.
- your congressmen will use this as an excuse to slash benefits and lower minimum wage.
It isn't a coincidence that billionaires love this plan. Workers will still have to work for them in order to live, and pay their landlords for shelter. Property values will go up. Business costs will go down. Workers will not be empowered.
The plan will cost three trillion, almost the entire federal budget, including social security and medicare. Every benefit that aids the poor will have to go, or your taxes will have to double. The poorest people who need the most help will end up worse off.

One thing in the way of effective action on our #climate crisis (and our toxics crisis, our biodiversity crisis, our plastics in the ocean crisis, not to mention our violence, war, poverty, racism, & sexism crises) is a terrible misunderstanding of who/what we are.
Many people speak about this as a spiritual/moral crisis and I agree. But, the misunderstanding I want to talk about is at once simpler and more profound.
(Note - when I say 'we' I mean those of us acculturated into the western industrial growth mindset, which in evolutionarily relevant timescales has only been around for a fleeting instant. Humans haven't always thought this way, and not all humans alive today think this way.)

Good questions @RedsforNamesake. If confronting #climate change is your priority, it is imperative to ramp up carbon-free energy asap.

1. NJ will now ramp up renewable energy from 13% in 2017 and 20% by 2020 under old RPS to 35% by 2025 & 50% by 2030. Impressive leadership.
2. To ensure that this new clean energy replaces fossil fuels and contributes to #climate mitigation goals, NJ's new laws also make payments to ensure the continued operation of 3 South Jersey nuclear reactors that currently supply 31% of the state's electricity consumption.
2. Cont.: That measure is essential and ensures that nearly all of the new clean energy growth over the next 12 years builds on top of the fossil-free foundation provided by the state's existing nuclear plants.
