Colleague informs me 2017 World Bank data are out of date - El Salvador no longer has highest murder-rate distinction. Still quite high though, at ~20 murders per 100,000. If other World Bank #s are still roughly correct, it's top 20 deadliest countries apnews.com/1a9f7bf6769f48…

This is unfortunately part of a pattern of book-cooking the administration has performed in order to get its cost-benefit analyses to show that deregulation is helping, rather than hurting, the economy. A few other examples... /1
No longer including "co-benefits" of a regulation (a break from long-standing government practice and official government policy). I.e., “favorable impact of [a] rule that is typically unrelated or secondary to the statutory purpose of the rulemaking.” brookings.edu/research/exami… /2
Throwing out certain studies on the grounds that they are too old (yet still citing even older studies within the same cost-benefit analysis), in order the disregard research findings that happen to be inconvenient: environment.yale.edu/news/article/Y… /3

I've been asked about this paper and thread quite a few times now. I'm working on a couple large posts on hunter-gatherer violence and inequality in general, as well as a longish critique of this paper, but in the meantime I'm gonna point out some of the problems I see here..
Early in the paper, and in his book on the Ju/'hoansi-!Kung, Lee describes his bias in favor of romantic notions of hunter-gatherer peace, but that through conducting interviews and collecting data, he found a pattern of homicide that was "out of kilter with the harmless image"
Among the Ju/'hoansi-!Kung, as is commonly the case across cultures more generally, fights over sex and revenge are significant sources of lethal conflict, and can develop into long-running feuds between families and groups, as I described here: traditionsofconflict.com/blog/2018/11/2…
