@AdrianLorio Here's my perspective: I'm not anti- or pro-Estate, I'm only a fan of MJ. My beef with them is -in my opinion- their utter failure to effectively defend MJ in the court of public opinion against the false allegations. I feel they should have commissioned a documentary in 2009-10
@AdrianLorio but I guess they felt there was no financial incentive to do that, since MJ was making so much money for the Estate with sales of his music, image, likeness, video games, Cirque Du Soleil shows, Pepsi sponsorships, etc. When Wade went public with is lies in 2013, I felt the
@AdrianLorio Estate should create a website specifically for updating the fans and general public with updates on the ongoing litigation, but because the litigation went virtually uncovered in the media, it didn't affect MJ's image in the eyes of the general public, so I brushed it aside.
@AdrianLorio but once #LeavingNeverland was announced in Jan. 2019, I think the Estate should have created a website to debunk it, as well as use MJ's social media accounts, or create new social media accounts specifically to refute LN. I was curious to see how they would respond, and I was
@AdrianLorio very pleased with their 10-page open letter to HBO which summarized all of the lies that Wade & James were caught in. Although it was addressed to HBO, it's clear the Estate wanted the public to know about it, which is why I was surprised it wasn't posted assets.documentcloud.org/documents/5733…
@AdrianLorio on any MJ social media accounts, or sent out to their mailing list of MJ fans. I only saw it once several websites like Variety and Deadline included it in their stories about the Estate's response to LN. As the weeks went by and the premiere date for LN was announced, I expected
@AdrianLorio to see Branca and/or Weitzman, or other lawyers representing the Estate, all over the airwaves debunking LN. That didn't happen. CBS News and Gayle King did an interview with Weitzman, aired a short promo, but never aired the interview. I thought "Weitzman must have done an
@AdrianLorio excellent job of debunking LN if CBS chose not to air it!", and expected to see him on other outlets, but it never happened. Even if the media chose not to interview the Estate, they could have uploaded videos to YouTube to debunk LN. I also feel that they could have written
@AdrianLorio an op-ed in the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, etc. summarizing the exculpatory evidence in MJ's defense just as they did in their letter to HBO. This would have reached the masses and could have shifted public opinion. I also think they
@AdrianLorio should have released both the written transcripts and the complete video of Wade and Joy Robinson's deposition, so that the media and public could see and read for themselves how they both crumbled under pressure while under cross-examination by MJ's Estate attorneys.
@AdrianLorio In summary, the Estate should have been more proactive instead of reactive in the court of public opinion. After LN aired, Taj did at least 15 or 20 interviews with media outlets all over the world in an attempt to clear MJ's name; the Estate could have and should have done the
@AdrianLorio same. I know Branca and Weitzman are busy men and can't fly all over the world as Taj did, but they have the money to hire a PR firm to deal with the media, and have the attorneys who cross-examined Wade & Joy blitz the media with facts as well. Yes, I know one of them did a
@AdrianLorio podcast interview, but only diehard MJ fans know about it; the general public does not! I've spoken with countless people in real life (and not here on Twitter) who ask about the Estate's response (or lack thereof). If Elvis or John Lennon were falsely accused like this, what do
@AdrianLorio think their Estates would do? Just issue a press release or a single tweet? I don't think so! Here's another example of what I mean: the Estate sent media a PowerPoint presentation to debunk LN, then complained that nobody would report on it. Well, why didn't they also publish
@AdrianLorio it themselves? I'm sorry, but I (and many fans I've talked to) just feel that their overall response has been pathetic. If it wasn't for fan websites and blogs, there would be NOTHING out there to debunk LN, and that's truly sad. Here's the article about the PP presentation
@AdrianLorio vt.co/news/entertain…

Also, At the panel covered by Variety the moderator asked Branca right away, “Why don’t you release a rebuttal? You’ve been complaining that LN is one sided, but in America, you rebut speech with more speech – you can make your own documentary.” To which
@AdrianLorio Branca responded along the lines that no one wants to hear the truth. But this is BS– a lot of people want to hear the truth! The number of new fans produced by LN proves that – those are people who wanted to know the truth and went to search for it. And there will be generations
@AdrianLorio of those people. Why not make the truth more accessible for them? They learned the truth ONLY thanks to fan sites, if it weren’t for the fans, there would be NOTHING out there to rebut LN. No official information.
@AdrianLorio also, why didn't the Estate seek an injunction to stop the distribution of LN all over the world last year? They are only asking for money in their lawsuit against HBO, but nothing to stop distribution. As far as defending MJ's name, the lawsuit is pointless.
@AdrianLorio Even IF they win or settle, money will exchange hands, but this will not stop the damage from LN or reflect in any way on MJ's name. When asked why they wouldn't sue Robson/Safechuck and seek to change the defamation law in California to protect the dead, Weitzman said
@AdrianLorio they "decided it wasn't a good expenditure of time or energy". Absolutely pathetic, and I swear if Taj wasn't doing his doc, I would have left the MJ fandom last year. I'm sick of the burden of defending MJ's name falling exclusively on fans while the Estate does NOTHING.
@AdrianLorio Ok, rant over! But I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, because I know most people who complain about the Estate complain about things related to MJ's music and the way they run things. Thanks!
