Hi. A briefing to HPSCI and a briefing to Sanders were two separate events. We don’t actually know if his briefing was classified. Even if it were, he could have already taken preemptive measures based on 2016, the Mueller report, the Mueller testimony, and the IRA indictment.
He could have spoken about current problems using the report, the testimony, and the indictment as a point of context and reference, without disclosing anything new that’s classified. He could have said “based on prior experience and what has already been publicly disclosed,”
“we are making every effort to not play into foreign disinformation attacks, or to confuse/discourage Americans from exercising their right to vote.” Then he could outline what steps they’re taking, and link to publicly available information so that people can understand.
And by steps, I mean concrete actions, not words.
