Me: Arms folded. Foot tapping-waiting
Instead it begins to click when it is done and they turn to experts bleating “Get me out of this”..
If the U.K. breaches the Treaty & just allows in goods between NI & GB etc as if they are all GB then there’s the potential that the UK will be in breach of WTO MFN re 3rd countries
So would 3rd countries then slap on retaliatory tariffs if the U.K. did not extend to them the same conditions
The movement of those goods within the Island of Island is one thing
The movement of them from Larne in NI to Holyhead another
And very little time to do so without a time extension.
Without dynamic alignment friction will increase to respond to the growing gap between UK standards - or indeed the risk of divergence given the U.K. intended reserved potential to do so.
@sylviademars asks the question we’ve all been contemplating with a sinking feeling.
“What will the joint committee do if (NI) says that it no longer wants the protocol? Those are going to be the world’s most unpleasant discussions. “
