Things to do as we work on #Preparedness
1. Companies should look at sick leave and infection control policies
2. Protocols for those with mild disease to be quarantined and treated at home
3. Develop telemedicine capabilities so patients are not inundating hospitals
4. Develop remote work capabilities
5. Encourage sick workers to stay home
6. Expand surveillance capacity
7. Expand laboratory capacity and capabilities with development of possible rapid diagnostics
8. Support public health agencies and contact tracing
9. Invest in R&D for therapeutics/vaccine
10. Education of the public on infection control practices (i.e. hand hygeine, cough into your elbow, bump elbows)
11. Work with healthcare systems to procure PPE, ventilators, gowns, gloves, and masks
12.Stay calm

Cases are appearing in greater numbers in countries outside China and a number aren't linked to travelers. For example, dramatic

Cases also in # of places in Iran, + new cluster in Italy, w/ other countries already
w cases unexplained by travel. Public health authorities call this “community
transmission”. So concerning because it means COVID spreading in ways that not

For most part countries still not testing widely for
community transmission, focusing predominantly on
returned travelers from China. So we do
not have clear sense where COVID is circulating. Can't say

PPOPHET MUHAMMAD’S LAST SERMON

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) delivered his last sermon (Khutbah) on the ninth of Dhul Hijjah (12th and last month of the Islamic year), 10 years after Hijrah (migration from Makkah to Madinah) in the Uranah Valley of mount Arafat.
His words were quite clear and concise and were directed to the ENTIRE HUMANITY .
After praising, and thanking Allah he said:

“O People, lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again.
Therefore listen to what I am saying to you very carefully and take these words to those who could not be present here today.
O people, just as you regard this month, this day, this city as Sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust.

As a writer, let me explain why comedians can't make much fun of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC). It has to do with the nature of comedy itself, and what comedy tries to do. The trope people most right-wingers are grasping for is "Hubris," one of the most common in storytelling.
Hubris appears in lots of comedies, but Sienfeld WAS a hubris plot. Every episode, a character tried to improve their lot only to be slapped back to the status quo, and always due to their own obvious failings. It's the "obvious" part that makes it comic.
Comedy has only two legitimate targets: the powerful and the foolish. Mocking the powerful is "punching up"; the presumption is the powerful can take it, and done well it can highlight the contradictions, spreaking truth to power, between the powerful's words and deeds.

Things that surprised/amazed me about Japan, an ongoing thread.

It’s my first time here. Please comment away and/or point out my cultural insensitivities!
1. A very friendly immigration officer and I laughed together, and when I said “I don’t really know where I’ll be staying,” he actually applauded it.
2. Very nice and clean train from the airport, with power sockets, and vending machines onboard.

Tons of solar panels passed by on the way.
