Throughout January and into February, an e-bay seller began selling pristine, boxed and in some cases sealed copies of Infocom products. You had to read the fine print to see it, but the seller indicated these came from the estate of a relative.
One of the objects sold was a patent commemoration from Microsoft, which also revealed which Infocom Alumnus this was: Brian T. Berkowitz.
Brian Berkowitz was one of the members of the Cornerstone Team, who made the relational database program that some (inaccurately) attribute to the downfall of Infocom. It was an incredible product, ahead of its time, and the work of Berkowitz and Richard Ilson was great.
All indications I can find is that Brian Berkowitz died in 2010, at the age of 53. He wasn't interviewed for my documentary on Infocom and it's a shame I missed him.
Marc Blank told me the story of being at his dentist years after leaving Infocom and seeing when he walked in that the secretary had a copy of Cornerstone.
