I don't understand this thinking on the China virus that is taking shape by many. It seems like people either believe it's Armageddon or it's nothing. It's not Armageddon and it's not nothing. It's a virus that is contiguous with a higher than normal death rate than the flu.
The numbers we have and the NIH is using is a 2.5% death rate compared to the avg flu that has about a 0.1% death rate. It's not going to kill everyone. Society is not going to collapse. There will be no zombies. However, a 2.5% death rate is a lot higher death rate than normal
....for such a virus. Yes, the Dems are making it political and trying to feed a panic but they do that with everything. Just because they are acting a certain way doesn't mean other people have to take the opposite position that it's nothing.
The higher death rate explains government's reactions with quarantines and mitigation attempts. While a 2.5% rate will not end the world it will cause a lot of problems, costs and deaths. Things governments would rather avoid.
As Trump stated tonight most people who get the virus will have a very mild case. You can help stop the spread by using good hygiene and avoiding going out if sick. He also stated there might be local control efforts to try to contain the spread.
So, be prepared for some changes in daily routines. Things probably won't be "normal" for awhile especially if the virus gets across the border. As Trump said there is a chance it won't get a foothold in the USA. Telling people there is a storm out at Sea and it may hit..
... or miss your town is not causing a panic. It's telling them there is a storm out at Sea and it may hit your town or it may miss it. Worst case if you prepare for the storm is you buy some extra food &supplies that you don't use for the storm but use later as everyday items
..if it doesn't hit. If it does hit and you don't prepare worst case is you are dead or on the roof with a sign asking for the helicopter to help you.

I thought Trump's press conference struck the right tone. He said hey we see the storm and are preparing if the storm hits
...but it might not hit. Right now the storm is out to sea. It may stay out at Sea, it may come ashore, if it does come ashore, it may hit your town or it may miss your town. If it hits your town, most will not feel it but it will cause disruptions....
...now you know. Take what precautions you think is best, keep abreast of the news, go about your normal activities, we will keep an eye on it and do what we can to mitigate damage if it hits. He did not say ignore the storm, it's nothing; or the storm will kill you all.
