There’s a tweet floating around that belittles people on here for tweeting about Elizabeth Warren’s character— about her being a cool boss, or someone you’d want to help you do your taxes, or even tweets about her being like Hermione Granger. 🧵
The tweet makes a false equivalency: it implies that Warren supporters don’t care about policy because we tweet about how good her “soft” skills are. That we have to choose between someone who has actionable policy proposals and someone who just seems nice.
Here’s the gag: Elizabeth Warren has both! I know we’ve gotten pretty cynical about politics and our politicians... but god, I really hope we don’t miss how special it is to believe in someone again so much that we get to daydream about how great they are.
(Not to mention— isn’t it interesting that one of the fiercest AND most nurturing women in politics right now and her supporters get made fun of for being nice, but male politicians can be as curmudgeonly as they like and get judged on their policies alone?)
Elizabeth Warren makes me feel hopeful— and when I see tweets about her character, I see that same hope. Let’s not lose that. It’s 2020 and we’re choosing hope over cynicism. /
