I've seen stats that said the average person reads 12 books a year.

'You believe it?'

Nah. I think the average person reads 0 books a year.

Don't think they've read one in the past decade.

2 reasons:

1. Some prefer blogs, podcasts, videos, emails, tweets.

2. Some are lazy
'I read books!'

Cover to cover?

'Oh, no then. I just skim.'

Gotcha. Then, that's not finishing the whole thing
'Is reading a book even necessary though?'

Depends on the person & your learning style.

I would say yes, but there are different alternatives for different people.

The key though is self education.
Self education is the goal.

The channels are different.

There are 2 brackets needed for self education:

-Consumption
-Production
In the beginning stages, consumption over production to learn the fundamentals.

Later on, production over consumption to apply the fundamentals.

If all you do is consume, then you'll get analysis paralysis and never begin
Overall, its a balancing act.

Sometimes you'll sway more one way, sometimes you'll sway more the other way.

But aim to consume & produce for optimal self education.

Now with that being said...
Are books out of style?

I don't think so.

However, technology has disrupted the education sectors in some ways
Our generation loves learning.

But they learn in different ways.

Some prefer, podcasts.

Some prefer, YouTube.

Some prefer blogs etc.

Some prefer all that & books too
Leveraging technology allows for interleaving learning.

'Inter what??'

Interleaving learning is when you can learn multiple subjects at once.

So you can learn a little about hardware engineering.

And see how electrons tie into that.

It's easier to cross combine subjects
'Well if that's the case, why read a book?'

Because a book has depth..

And something about a physical book will never go out of style.

It's something of a collector's item when you invest in your brain.

Your number 1 asset
A book gives you in depth knowledge on a topic.

In depth knowledge allows your to familiarize yourself with a topic.

Familiarity that a summary can't give you.

'Are you saying summaries are bad?'

Nah. But summaries to substitute books completely leaves out a lot of potential
Anyone who self improves should have a bookshelf.

It makes you feel more committed.

'Ha, okay bro.'

Seriously. It makes you more committed to the process & see how far ya came
We live in the Information Age. A lot of things are invisible.

Invisible as you can't physically touch & hold it.

But your brain likes VISIBLE.

Your brain likes it when you get the senses engaged
Which is why despite technology wiping out a lot of industries...

The bookshelf with books stands the test of time for many people who have opted into the Level Up journey
No need to overdo it though.

You don't just need to be reading all the time.

But a book a month is absolutely doable.

This is the bare minimum you can do.

If you can do more, that's better.
Keep this a secret, but there are tons of people who never read a book to completion their entire life.

Completion as in cover to cover.

They started, here and there.

Skimmed.

Or just got the summary
Knowledge compounds overtime.

Each content shapes your brain & new neural pathways begin to connect.

A mix between doing & consuming knowledge which interests ya creates a powerhouse
I learned from reading a few books about life than I ever have in:

-The school system
-The mainstream media

And that's facts
You're living in the info age.

Staying ignorant is a choice.

Invest in your education & become a powerhouse in a field.

Carve out your own lane by being strategic
Digital & analog is one hell of a combo.

Build your bookshelf & compound your knowledge.

Integrated neural pathways await.
