Skill CHEATCODE:

If you really wanna learn & master a skill, then study its history

Learn how it originated

Legends of the past

This gives you perspective

And perspective keeps you moving when most people quit
Many will begin.

But a few will finish.
'What is a skill?'

A skill is something that can be learned, practiced & mastered

Behind every skill are fundamentals.

And once the fundamentals are fine tuned an emergent property begins to emerge
But executing a skill alone is not enough.

Truth be told, its only a fraction of it.

'Wait forreal? So what's the majority of a skill?

Mindset.
The reason that many people begin & a few people keep it goes is due to intent.

One has a scattered mind.

The other has a pointed mind.
'How do I get a pointed mind?'

You get a pointed mind thru perspective.

Perspective gives you a sense of calm when shit starts hitting the fan.
Picture driving a car for example.

If you were given the first car on the planet & told to drive it... then you'd feel a tad bit iffy.

But you push your negative emotions aside & give it a try
Rather than gently pressing on the accelerator, you smash it ( like most people do when they first drive).

Automatically, you are terrified & now your doubts got worse.

You're like 'nah fam... I'm good. I'll just walk.'
But imagine instead you see multiple people driving.

At this point you'd think 'hm...if they can do it, then why can't i?'

Your perspective has been enhanced.

And you're willing to continue
Obviously you gotta be realistic too.

If you're someone who has never picked up a basketball, in his mid 40s..

Don't hope to learn the skill of basketball to make the NBA

'What if I really think I can?'
Well if you really think you can, then hold that intention.

You'll improve in basketball much quicker if your goal is to make the NBA vs being the best in your rec team

Although we logically know it's a longshot (if not impossible) your brain will still adjust
Grand goals alter your behavior

Grand goals ALTER your behavior.

And you begin altering your behaviors by giving your brain perspective
Study the history of the skillset that you're trying to pick up

When I started public speaking in toastmasters, I didn't think I could do it.

So I decided to see which great speakers I could get some tips from
As I did some research, i noticed a lot of speakers (past & present) were actually super shy at first.

And they said that was their competitive advantage later on

If they could fight thru the nerves to give a speech anyways, then future speeches became light work
That piece of information made me more committed to the speaking process

Learning more about public speaking made it apparent that this was a superpower

And it's not new either

Aristotle, Socrates, Ben Franklin were masters
Find the skill that you're trying to level up on

Don't just be competent

Become great

Become irreplaceable

Set that goal for your mind so it has a target

Your behaviors will have more intention behind it
Whether you're trying to learn:

Cooking

Creative writing

Gardening

Photography

Etc

Aim to be the better than you were yesterday

Even if its marginal
A combination of gaining perspective from history + setting a grand goal + being better than you were yday

= Game changer
Once you become elite in one skill, its much easier to apply the same framework for another skill

Be the master at many things

Test your human potential

The more skills in your arsenal, the more confidence you have
Time is your most precious asset

Use it to level up your life & level up your mind

One. Step. At. A. Time.

In a few months, nothing will feel the same
