Hey @realDonaldTrump. Talking about Obama won’t end criticism of your #Covid_19 response.

You know what will? Fixing your response by getting the CDC to stop refusing testing of symptomatic people, supporting paid leave & other stimulus, etc.

We’re tired of this. Stfu and lead.
Excuse the language, I’m just done with this fraud. People are out here dying and he’s tweeting like a goofball. He’s a 73 year old man incapable of grasping the grave reality of the situation that his actions have made worse.
I‘ve barely been able to sleep thinking and reading about this and it doesn’t even phase Trump. He just doesn’t give a damn. You’re gonna watch Fox News and tweet about Obama right now? Seriously?

Chris Matthews just announced he’s retiring.

Tonight will be his last Hardball.
After Matthews’ on-air announcement, Hardball went on commercial break.

When it came back, it was Steve Kornacki Iooking surprised. After some laudatory remarks about Matthews, Kornacki said they’ll have to fill this hour then it went on immediate commercial break.
It appears Chirs Matthews' MSNBC colleagues may have been blindsided by this announcement.

This is horrifying.

It makes Yovanovitch’s testimony recounting how she felt threatened even more stunning.
Yovanovitch literally got the call that she was being recalled from her ambassadorship in Ukraine due to concerns for her safety while she was at an event honoring an anti-corruption activist who was killed.

Now we know she was being tracked by Parnas and his goons.

JFC.
And after going through this, Yovanovitch had to read the July 25 transcript memo where the damn POTUS told Zelensky that she would "go through some things."

Then he attacked her DURING her testimony.

This whole scheme against Yovanovitch was straight-up mob behavior.

The biggest story out of Dr. Fiona Hill's testimony is that the entire Republican Party was publicly being called out as not even unwitting perpetrators of Russia’s active measures, but knowing accomplices.
🚨Trump talked to Putin about the Ukraine conspiracy theory. Buried in that NYT piece:

“That muddy brew worked its way into American information ecosystems… until parts of it reached Mr. Trump, who has also spoken with Mr. Putin about allegations of Ukrainian interference.”
So… big picture:

Russia has been pushing a yearslong disinformation campaign to frame Ukraine for interfering in the 2016 election.

Putin spoke to Trump about it directly.

Trump mobilized HIS ENTIRE PARTY to push this narrative.

They're aiding Russian interference. Again.

Epidemiologists, virologists and other experts are telling us #COVID-19 is serious and we should make sure we take precautions to limit its spread.

And yet I still see people shaming those who are worried and calling it a “media-induced panic.”

Let's do a quick numbers thread.
Let’s say the mortality rate for #COVID-19 is 2% - a mid-range estimate by current worldwide numbers - and 50% of the Canadian population contracts the virus (estimates are between 30%-70%, so again, I’m going mid-range for numbers.)
The 2019 census tells us there are 37,590,000 Canadians.

Half our population is 18,795,00.

2% mortality rate results in 375,900 deaths. That’s a lot of people. That’s a small city - gone.

I’m anxious that policy makers around the world, but esp in the US and UK (countries I am closest to) are nervously watching the situation and waiting for more information to take tough decisions. But If you wait to know the right thing to do, it will be too late to do it 2/n
People obviously want answers to questions like when should we shut schools? Or halt gatherings? Or close workplaces? Or more severe means of social distancing. At the moment, we don’t know enough about the virus to be able to give definitive answers 3/n

....the Australian pandemic plan. It’s publicly available. Ireland will have a VERY similar plan, though the names of the phases might be different. PHASE 1: Preparedness; This is when planning happens. It’s ongoing, with meetings, desktop exercises and pressure testing.....
.....PHASE 2: Standby; This phase kicks in when there’s sustained transmission overseas. When China saw the situation get bad, most countries stepped into this phase. It’s enhanced level of preparation. Lots of banal work goes on behind the scenes, from making sure local plans...

Some late night #COVIDー19 thoughts. But first, IANAP, so this is not medical advice.

Epidemiologic models suggest a doubling of cases every week or so in the US. That puts us at crazy numbers of patients by late May.

The impact on our economy will be stunning. /1
Most travel and hospitality business will see revenue plunge by at least 20%. That will be enough to put more than a few out of business, and 100s of thousands of workers in those industries will be laid off or have hours cut back. /2
I think a decent ballpark estimate of monthly unemployment by the end of the 2nd quarter (June 30) is 5-6%. It was 3.6% in January.

I think we'll be in recession by the end of the 2020. We may not know it by then, but final numbers (released in 2021) will likely confirm. /3
