In the ICU today and seeing this up close. Many under investigation and each one is a massive resource strain. no confirmed cases because of enormous turn around time. This is as much a crisis of testing as it is a crisis of treating. #COVID19
People really coming together, but of course everyone's a little bit on edge. I was in a patient's room who wasn't at all someone we were worried about having it.

The patient coughed and I have to admit I freaked out for a half hour or so.
We did a procedure in a high suspicion room. I was quickly reminded just how hot and stuffy it is in an n95.

So much care with keeping things clean going in and out of the room. So much I never thought about before. Just the time it takes to clean everything that comes out...!
I know a lot of this is in my head, but it feels like we are being invaded by this virus. Like the hospital is its own country, each floor a state, each room a city. The resource strain is already evident. I am terrified of how much ground we are losing. We must flatten the curve
I want to give a special shout out to our nurses. The nurses that learned all of the ins and outs of the protective equipment are assigned over and over again to these patients. It is physically and mentally tough work. And they are keeping us all safe.
More than ever, you realize how much of a team effort this is, will be, always has been. Our safety relies on so many other people. A mistake in communication could lead to wide exposure. The stakes feel very high. It has never felt more like it is impossible to do this alone.
It is bizarre. You see it in front of you, but there are not actually an overwhelming number of patients. But you can absolutely feel like it's about to hit, and hit hard. And when it does, the strain will be immense If we don't take quarantine seriously.
The two weeks before today, I felt the storm coming. Then I saw it on the horizon. Now I felt the rain on my face and I'm starting to hear the thunder. Part of what is so scary is just the sense of enormity of it all
Finally

It felt so, so good to shower when I got home.
