I’m a #nurse, and I just tested positive for #COVID19 ....but let me tell you how I got here:

[ A THREAD ]

#coronavirus
Day1: started having some body aches/fever and a dry cough- called my doctor got some antibiotics called in. I figured it would go away in a couple days.
Day 2-Day 5: still having body aches, fever that would stay around 101 even with Tylenol/ibuprofen, persistent dry cough —during this time I felt like I got run over by a bus.
Day 6- head back to my doctors office (at this point I still didn’t qualify for Covid testing) , got a steroid shot. Gave me mild relief for half a day from the fevers.
Day 8: feeling dehydrated so decided go to an Urgent Care to get a chest X-ray. Looks like I have pneumonia but need to wait for full report from radiologist - get a call from the urgent care doctor a few hours later telling me to go to a ER ASAP.
So Monday night I go to the ER. At this point my fever is still 101-102. Body aches, chills, and cough are making me miserable. Get a bunch of labs, fluids, antibiotics, etc. Diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia and admitted. Finally tested for #COVID19.
Since Monday they’ve been working on getting me fever free for 24 hours (4more hours to go..yay!). I’ve gone through periods of being absolutely miserable and periods where I get some relief.
Today my results came back positive for Covid19. I was actually relieved because everything else came back negative. Started on a medication to help reduce its effects. I actually feel better today than I have in 10 days. Hopefully it’s only uphill from here.
If you take anything away from this thread it’s stay home and don’t unnecessarily expose others. Throughout this whole process the thing I kept repeating is “I don’t know how an elderly person would handle this.” Because when it’s bad it’s really bad.
Hoping to get discharged from the hospital in the next day or so. Thanks for all your well wishes. Wash your hands and be nice to each other.
Final note since a few people have asked: I’m 31 years old with no past medical history besides having my tonsils out as a kid.
