Power of Positive Thoughts & Words

In current situation when the world is facing a pandemic, it's important to think & speak positively. Here's a small story I heard as a child and tried to reproduce it here.

Once there were two brothers, both were vastly different to each other. The elder brother was temperamental & always used to think negatively and used cuss a lot, sometimes without any context.

While the younger brother was mild-mannered, always thought there's a silver-lining in every dark cloud and his thoughts used to reflect in his speech.

As for lifestyle, the elder brother was rich and the younger one was doing okay in their respective life.

Despite belonging to different class socially, they kept in touch with each other and also attended any family obligation together.

In every such occasion, the younger brother was greeted warmly and ppl smiled a lot while talking to him.

On the other hand, ppl gave wide berth to the elder brother, not wanting to be on receiving end of unnecessary negativity or swearing.

Once while returning from business trip in late night, they decided to rest beneath a huge Banyan tree.

Unbeknownst to both brothers, the tree housed a Spirit tht was infamous for being notorious with the travellers.

Seeing the two brothers, the Spirit thought of playing a trick and stole their belongings.

Upon waking up, both brothers noticed tht their belongings hv vanished and started panicking. They approached nearby village and talked to some villagers. The villagers explained abt the Spirit and asked them to plead with the Spirit to give them their belongings back.

Both brothers went back to the tree and started pleading to the Spirit. While younger brother was sincere in his pleas, elder one had to restrain from using choicest words for the Spirit. Finally, the Spirit relented and gave them their belongings.

Apart from tht, the Spirit also gave them 2 coconuts each & told them, they can wish for anything using the coconut and their wish will be fulfilled.

The Spirit smiled mysteriously while handing over coconuts to elder brother and genuinely while giving them to younger brother.

Both brothers went home and were eager to use those coconuts. Younger brother wished for positive things while breaking each of those coconuts as follows:

1. I wish to help anyone who approach without turning them away - he got wealth beyond his comprehension

2. I want to establish Dharma once again in this pious land - workers from his land informed him tht they found a vigraha of Bhagwan while digging for well; he built a temple there for worship and continued with doing Dharmic work

The elder brother on the contrary, was still has sceptic and negative thinking, and this is how he used the coconuts given to him:

1. Due to his negative thinking, he's sceptical and believed tht nothing good might come of it, so wished for his wife to vanish - she did!

2. Seeing tht wht he has done, he used the second coconut to being back his wife, thus squandering the opportunity

Couple of lessons from the story:

1. Be optimistic - believe me, it'll change how u look at world and vice-versa

2. Optimistic thoughts will convert to words and u don't know whom u might inspire with ur words

Remember, if one remains pessimist, even breathing in current situation wud be a difficult task instead of being a routine.
