CLOSURE OF INTERNATIONAL AIRPORTS

The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 has announced the closure of three (3) International airports in the country as part of measures taken to combat the spread of coronavirus.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation/ Chairman PTF, Boss Mustapha, stated that effective from Saturday 21st March, 2020 midnight, the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano; Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu and...
...the Port-Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa will be closed to all international flights.

However, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation said that the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja and the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos

...will remain opened to and accept international flights irrespective of the type of operations.
All stakeholders are enjoined to collaborate with Port Health Services in the identification of suspects/persons at points of entry and to bring such persons to the attention of Port Health Officers for appropriate action.

Meanwhile, the PTF urges all Nigerians to remain calm...
... and cooperate with the instructions already issued by the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on modes of worship and gatherings at this time not exceeding fifty (50) persons.

The National Directorate of Employment has kicked off a Special Public Works Programme (SPW), to engage young Nigerians in rural local governments.

40,000 young Nigerians, aged 18-30, already engaged in pilot phase:

-8 States
-5 rural LGAs per State
-1,000 beneficiaries per LGA
The eight States in the pilot phase of the @NDENigeria-managed SPW program are as follows:

Ebonyi
Borno
Edo
Ekiti
Adamawa
Kwara
Katsina
Jigawa

The SPW is a 3-month paid initiative aimed at engaging young unemployed Nigerians in rural areas, during the dry (non-farming) season.
SPW Beneficiaries have been engaged to carry out clearing/cleaning of streets, markets, schools, drains, etc; and also maintenance of rural feeder roads.

No skills or formal education are required for the SPW Program. The target areas are rural communities.

... but the obligor, and his company, Bedko Nigeria Limited have remained recalcitrant and unwilling to repay the huge debt to the Corporation.

The Federal Governement of Nigeria (FGN) has engaged and continues to engage with international partners, including the USA, in the recovery and return to Nigeria of stolen assets. Nigeria and the USA are continually cooperating in the recovery and return of those assets.
This long-standing cooperation recently culminated in the successful signing of memorandum of understanding for the repatriation of over $300 million looted assets associated with General Sani Abacha.
Recall that prior to the 2020 agreement with the USA and Island of Jersey, the Federal Government of Nigeria had signed an agreement for the return of over 300 million US Dollars in 2017 which was effectively deployed for the purpose for which it was agreed to be applied.

Good afternoon Nigerians,
Earlier today my daughter returned from the UK being among the high Burden listed countries of COVID-19.
Based on the advice of the Hon. Minister Of Health , Presidential Task force on COVID - 19 and that of NCDC, She is on Self Isolation, not because she displayed any symptoms of the Covid-19 .
Please I urge all parents to do the same if possible as prevention is better than cure .

Similarly, I have shut down my office for two weeks with immediate effect while essential staff can work from home as a result of some Staff who recently returned from the UK .

The Emergency Measures Act is the more modern replacement of the War Measures Act, which was so (in)famously invoked by the current prime minister’s father. The current Act is, hopefully, a kinder, better balance between protecting public safety and individual liberty.

The Task Force will identify immediate and longer-term economic recovery strategies for residents and businesses, with a focus on supporting those segments of the economy that are most strongly impacted by #COVIDー19, such as tourism, hospitality and entertainment.
The focus of the Task Force will be on quickly determining what current supports and stimulus work needs to be done. The City will be working with industry partners to identify actions to support businesses, workers, and residents in responding to the economic impact of COVID-19.

@ProfAkinAbayomi who disclosed this today while giving an update on the management and control of COVID-19 outbreak in Lagos State said the patient who arrived yesterday aboard an Ethiopian Airline was taken into isolation after exhibiting symptoms of #COVIDー19.
According to him, samples were collected from the patient and the test which turned out negative was carried out the Lagos State Bio-security Level 3 laboratory located within the premises of the Mainland Hospital.

@followlasg has said that the Chinese citizen who presented at the Reddington Hospital, Ikeja @ReddingtonLagos yesterday and suspected to have Corona virus has tested negative to the infection.
@ProfAkinAbayomi who made this known through a press statement noted that the likelyhood of #COVIDー19 infection in this particular patient was very low & the conclusion of investigations & sophisticated testing confirms that there is no case of Corona Virus in Lagos as of now.
“I would like to reassure Lagosians that our vigilance levels are very high and we are putting more measures in place to safe guard the State”, @ProfAkinAbayomi said.
