Today: I put on a bright red blouse that was a gift from a much-loved friend on my last day in Australia and blue glitter eye shadow.

I woke up feeling like shit today. I had a terrible dream that I took a trip that seriously and unnecessarily jeopardized my life.

And I needed joy. So today it’s red blouse and blue glitter eye shadow.

We have a long way ahead.

I am trying to find ways to not break, but to bend.

Try to find some joy. Try to figure out how to make it day by day.

I don’t have access to any numbers or predictions. But it is highly unlikely this will be over in 2 weeks after which we all go back to “normal.”

So it is imperative that you try to avoid things that fuel panic and increase anxiety. Which is basically all news these days.
Being at home all day, I know that for me reading every news article does not make me feel better.

I have put a lot of thought into what does and I know that avoiding constant updates is the way.

I am not in denial. I am in take care of myself mode. Take care of you.

I told @rerutled that once my red hair colour fades, I’ll cut it all off. Buzzcut!

I dyed my hair red to say “fuck you, I survived” to the #Egyptian regime after its riot police attacked me.

This was taken soon after I survived that attack by #Egyptian riot police and shortly before I went red.

I went red for defiance. I will find other ways to defy #COVID19

I have virtually no interest in stoking more paranoia. Let’s just call this sharing a laser-focused expression of my personal experience in the current health crisis and the problems of navigating it.
For background, I totally got my flu shot. I’ve also been around people with flu this year and didn’t get sick. And I mention this because… Out of nowhere, Thursday afternoon I started feeling not right.
I felt dizzy and like I couldn't string two thoughts together. And deep down, it was one of those moments where you just know your body is off. That something is different. You really do just know that something isn’t right.

At about 2pm 10th of May 2019, an officer called my name from d counter, my personal effects were handed over to me, I was take to d @PoliceNG headquarters Kaduna where I was parades from officer to office starting from d commissioners officer, I felt dehumanized, my strength was
begining to fail me, I kept asking myself could this be the status quo? why am I being punished even before being declared guilty by a law court?
after parading me, they took me to an office where I was to be interrogated by a senior police officer.

While in d office, my friend
finally located me there after 72 hours of searching, they came alongside a lawyer who sat by throughout d interrogation.

Hey I wanna get real for a minute. About a year ago a good friend of mine offhandedly mentioned that he had started taking anti-depressants. I was pretty surprised, he always seemed like a confident had-it-together dude.
He explained pretty matter-of-factly that he sometimes got depressed and, since starting on anti-depressants, things had gotten better. I didn't ask him to go deeper into explaining his depression, I just said it was awesome it was working out for him. But it stuck with me.
I'd never taken anti-depressants or any mental health drugs. I had the common perspective that periods of mental stress could be solved through exercise, meditation, work, therapy, & other non-chemical solutions. I was also someone who suffered from chronic anxiety & drank a lot.
