According to @flightradar24 the number of daily flights worldwide is plunging. Not surprising really, but this graph really hammers it home. (You might also argue that 95,000-odd flights in a day is still a lot... but it's a long way from the average of 160,000-170,000 a day!) 
BTW, this has consequences not just for passengers, but for freight too. After all, a huge amount of air freight is carried in the hold of passenger planes. That compounds the losses to the aviation industry.
