The case for releasing detainees is inarguable. Only legal basis for detention is intention to deport. But deportations now impossible.
Medical report found "it is credible and plausible that 60% of immigration detainees will soon become infected with covid-19".
Keeping the detention centres open also threatens the whole community, because staff going into and out of them function as "epidemiological pumps".

I miss London.
I'm technically in it I guess, but there's no way of knowing. Could be anywhere. I miss the bustle and the noise and the people and the smoke and the angry drivers and the lairy weirdos and the awkward people on the tube and the smokers outside the pub.

This is the trouble with handing the police new powers. They are so rarely sensible enough to be trusted with them.
They urgently need to get a grip on themselves. If there's a widespread sense that police are overstepping the mark then the restrictions will be harder to enforce.
They could start by actually reading what the rules are - big ask, I know - and then policing them moderately and sensibly.

Conversations are quite odd during this period. It's not just that they're conducted remotely. It's that no-one is actually doing anything.
'What have you been up to' becomes a fairly pointless question. They have been doing what you have been doing: fretting, cooking, watching telly, feeling sightly distracted and anxious.
The things you are both into - sports, politics, comics, films, whatever - have stopped. There's just covid and the response to it to talk about.

I wrote a thread after receiving my letter👇
Since the referendum, anticipated healthcare & pension issues for #UKinEU citizens have been raised constantly with politicians both by individuals & by those lobbying on our behalf. Both in relation to any WA & to a No Deal Brexit /1
It seems to little avail given the contents of today’s letter. The govt displays no understanding of how Brexit is impacting the lives of 1.2m of its own citizens & cares even less. Truly « out of sight out of mind » /2
We had the legal right to make the choice to live in another EU state as part of the EU FOM benefits dating back decades.
We did this with the expectation of a continuing right to the healthcare & state pensions we have contributed towards all our working lives /3

Euro Investigation Order would also end in case of no deal Brexit; mutual assistance would apply instead.
Beware a false claim doing the rounds: "the Swedes dropped the case against Assange". No, it was discontinued only because he hid in the embassy, and was always liable to be reopened if/when he left: news.cision.com/aklagarmyndigh… Today's ruling doesn't end the (reopened) investigation.
