The cultural historians of the future (assuming such people exist) are gonna have a heyday sorting out the tangled relationship between the Tiger King phenomenon and Trump's coronavirus debacle.
Can't remember where I saw it, but one person's hot take was that Joe Exotic is what Trump would have been if he was born poor.
Personally, I find it to be a troublingly "both sides" take on a situation in which there do not appear to be "good people on both sides."
I gave up after a few episodes so perhaps it ultimately redeems itself. But I thought it was voyeuristic, exploitative, and manipulative.

First, consider the retweeter, an editor (and founder) of The Federalist, one of the most cynical right wing organs of disinformation out there today. They are notoriously secretive about their funding source.
So yeah, someone from The Federalist expressing concern about the epistemological dangers of disinformation is a bit rich. But that's only the beginning....

For some reason I’m starting to think that all of those rich people who lectured millennials about the magical and timeless virtues of delayed gratification were not acting in good faith.
Never mind, I figured it out now. Delaying gratification is good if enables you to frame the inequities of an economic system you benefit from as the fault of those who are systematically disadvantaged. But it’s bad when it can save ordinary people’s lives.

Whole bunch of rich GOPers who knew Trump was a joke but were in it solely for the right wing judges, the tax cuts, and the deregulation are now in it for the mass casualty event potentially impacting every single American. How's that decision sitting with you now?
All these people who think they're the kings of the world, who think their knowledge, hard work, and expertise made them who they are and yet thought that any old jackass could be President because who needs the government? Guess what. You do. We all do.
It's hard for me to contain my rage right now at the 62 million people who enabled this murderous train wreck, and especially the few thousand rich, entitled fools who were willing to trade some crass racism for an opportunity to buy another yacht.

This thread is dedicated to #coronavirus / #Covid19 information. The full name is "2019 novel Corona virus", shortened to 2019-nCoV & Covid-19. Its name comes from the crown-like spikes on the surface of the virus that resemble flares in the sun's corona.
Coronaviruses are zoonotic diseases, meaning that humans become infected by animals that have the disease. Scientists speculate that #Covid19 may have originated from Chinese bats or ant-eating pangolin. It is possible the virus crossed multiple animals before infecting humans.
Dozens infected in the #Covid19 outbreak worked in a Wuhan animal market, but tests of #coronavirus samples from the market have yet to identify a source. The close proximity of shoppers to animals in wet markets has made them breeding grounds for zoonotic diseases in the past.

1. Public Health and your personal health are not the same thing. The health of individuals and the health of the population are interdependent, but the strategies are different. The response to coronavirus (covid-19) in King County is a public health response.
The goal is to protect the community as a whole. Your role as an individual is to do your small part to cooperate in the larger project, for the good of the whole community. Think of it as part of your civic duty. A war effort without the war.

Following the initial reports from China – and anticipating multiple agency aspects of U.S. government would need a unified command structure – on January 30th President Trump assembled a unified task force to coordinate all response efforts across the totality of government.
The task force is coordinated through the National Security Council. It is composed of subject matter experts from White House and several United States Government agencies, and it includes some of the Nation’s foremost experts on infectious diseases.
