My Learned Friend @iyaboawokoya. If you had muted me, I am sure that others will bring this short thread to your attention. First of all, thank you for tagging me. It shows a level of maturity that is lacking in many. You once asked me if I had blocked you. I had not. Thread...
The truth is that I don’t visit the TLs of partisan people. I let them do their stuff. None of my business, really. I only comment on some things when they are tweeted to my TL. Your tweets don’t get tweeted to my TL, so, to be honest, I don’t know what you say about many things.
I live within my means, so I support any statement asking people to live within their means. It is only plain common sense for anyone that doesn’t want to engage in criminality or crushing debt. I am, therefore, not sure what you are referring to in your tweet.
Mr President belongs to all of us. We are all entitled to our views as to what he should and shouldn’t do. Some people are partisan. That’s fine. Some people are nonpartisan. I hope that that’s fine too.
Some are labeled and ridiculed as “Fencist”, although I believe the label is now meaningless. The day Asiwaju Tinubu, who is clearly partisan, was labeled “Fencist”, I knew the word was now meaningless. It now means “I don’t like the fact that you don’t have mob mentality.”
My belief that Mr President should address the nation was not just because I wanted to hear him speak. When a nation is in crisis, citizens want to know that everything will be alright. There are some things ONLY a President can do. No Minister, no DG can. Only Mr President can.
If Mr President had gone to Abule Ado and comforted the citizens there, it would have been very well received. When he doesn’t do these things, he leaves room for members of the Opposition, nonpartisan people and EVEN SOME OF HIS SUPPORTERS to criticise his not doing so.
I have been in government at a much lower level than the President. I strongly condemn those that make up stories about his demise and those wishing him dead. I hope they can bury their heads in shame after watching his address last night.
I strongly condemn those that ridicule the office of the President of Nigeria and those that encourage others to do so. Even if you don’t like the man, respect the office he holds. Why do you think President Obasanjo bows to greet President Buhari? He is bowing to the office.
I would like Mr President to VISIBLY show more empathy when things go wrong. I would like to see him leading from the front, providing succor, reassurance and hope. If that is not his nature, he should mandate someone, maybe his VP, to do it on his behalf. VP Is very good at it.
These are my views. Some people may not share those views and that is fine. I have no issues with your partisanship. I am a democrat. I believe in Freedom of Speech (within the Law), Freedom of Association, Free and Fair Elections, and Rule of Law. These are my guiding principles
I also believe in shades & nuances. Those I call zombies are those that refuse, or are unable to, reason, even in the face of contrary evidence & will come out & ridicule people with balanced or nuanced opinions. They belong to ALL the political parties, not anyone in particular.
In conclusion, Ma, I have no issues with you or your partisanship. I know you have no issues with me or my nonpartisanship. You shouldn’t assume anything I say is directed at you. If we both maintain our lanes, there will be no falling out. Good morning and stay safe. End.
