Another update from the City of Jonesboro and Mayor Harold Perrin on the way in just a couple minutes. Tweets to follow.
Different setup from yesterday. First off- my temperature was taken at the door. A big reminder that #Jonesboro will be the first town dealing with a rebuild following a natural disaster during #COVIDー19.
Mayor Perrin: We have two major issues in our city. The first is #COVIDー19.

Says our numbers go up every day and folks working to rebuild should practice social distancing.
Perrin again urges those who want to volunteer to call 935-5662 or email moliver@jonesboro.org.
Perrin: Mail will still be running despite the damage to the Race Street Post Office. For the time being, please visit the locations downtown or on campus.
Perrin: For contractors coming into the city of Jonesboro, you must have a permit from the city and be licensed in the state of Arkansas.

Also urges people to use local companies.
Perrin: there is a burn ban in the city at the recommendation of the #Jonesboro Fire Department.
Judge Marvin Day says the amount of people coming out to volunteer is staggering.
Day also reports a death from #COVIDー19 in Greene County, again reminding volunteers and area workers to practice social distancing.
Day: United Way is Jonesboro has setup a portal to ensure that 100% of donations stay in Jonesboro.

Additionally, the Food Bank of NEA is in need of donations, both food and funds.
Day on clean up efforts: says what would really help is if citizens would take their yard waste like trees and brush to the lot on Strawfloor. Again, yard waste only. But it’s FREE.
Day: says it would also be helpful for folks to sort their debris like listed below.
Day on fraudulent contractors: they will tell you that they can fix your property for free, but will the. File a back lien on your property.

Again, ask for a privilege license from the city of #Jonesboro and that they have an Arkansas license.
Day: update from the Red Cross with 80% numbers in
— 88 houses destroyed
— 66 with significant damage
— 309 with minor damage
— 10 affected.
Day: the Red Cross will be able to start distributing resources Tuesday AM.

Call 417-447-7180 for assistance. The number is not local, but the help is. Usually assistance would be administered by walking into the office and asking for help, but not during #COVIDー19.
Day says you’ll need to have an ID plus proof of address- like a bill or something of that nature- to claim assistance.
JPD Chief Rick Elliott says officers are on the scene patrolling the hardest hit neighborhoods and also restricting access.

Volunteers should hold off on heading to these restricted areas until utility workers can work in those neighborhoods.
Elliott: at this point no additional volunteers are needed. Says that if you call 935-5562 there is a spreadsheet and they will take name and info.
Elliott: prepared food needs have also been met at this point. Praises the response of the community for feeding volunteers and first responders.
Elliott: Samaritan’s Porch has set up and The Rock Church on Johnson Ave and has portable showers and also needs.
Elliott: Utility and Ritter workers continuing to work on Nettleton by airport. Hopes to have service restored within the next couple of hours.
Elliott: the train derailment resulted in 104 flipped containers. Half landed on the left side of the tracks and the other half on the right due to the swirling wind.

Also praises the railroad’s response to the derailment. The tracks are open.
Elliott: The #Jonesboro curfew is set for tonight from 10P-6A.
Elliott says an investigation will be opened in regards to tow companies charging if exorbitant fees for damaged vehicles.
Day: in total 493 houses have been looked at by the Red Cross. In addition to numbers reported early, 20 were found to have no damage.
Perrin says that if a consumer has a complaint regarding price gouging, they should go straight to the Attorney General’s office. More here: arkansasag.gov/forms/file-a-c…
Perrin again cautions citizens to be aware of #COVIDー19 and to be smart in the rebuilding efforts. He has stated it repeatedly and emphatically.
