The need to know info from #Jonesboro this morning from Mayor Harold Perrin, Co Judge Marvin Day, Congressman Rick Crawford and others.

Thread ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️
The most important thing you need to know continues to be this: ZERO fatalities.
While 22 people were injured, only two required hospitalization and all were considered non-life threatening.
For everyone looking to help, whether by volunteering or donating, call this number:
870-935-5562

Also, if you would like to donate now, consider giving money to the Red Cross.
The rescue effort is complete, with both a primary and secondary search completed. Clean up and recovery are now beginning.

The city is still under a curfew, but the hours have been adjusted and are now 9p-6a. Folks can still report to and from work.
Craighead Co Judge Marvin Day cautions citizens to be alert for scammers. Make sure anyone trying to do work from you has a permit from the city of Jonesboro.

For those cleaning up, trees and brush can be taken to Strawfloor, while Legacy Landfill is open noon-6 today.
For those wanting to go gawk at the damage, that's not helping.

My opinion here: if you're trying to get pics of damage for a few extra likes on the 'gram, you're an awful person.
Congressman Rick Crawford says his job at the federal level will be to make sure that the appropriate response can be addressed with FEMA and other organizations to be a resource at the local community.

He also praised community members, first responders, & the KAIT storm team.
Police Chief Rick Elliott says that JPD will be on 12-hr shifts and the force has been supplemented with officers from other areas.

"We had an overwhelming response from our law enforcement brothers & sisters." Thanks law community from area & out of state for offers of support.
Elliott: "We will all get through this together. It's a team effort...This is what we do day in and day out in Jonesboro, we all work together."
Craighead Co Sheriff Marty Boyd says that first responders are still out, and urges everyone to stay home and stay out of the way. Several areas are still unsafe.

"The less traffic we have, the faster we can get back to normal operations."
Boyd on volunteers: "We have more than what we need at this time, but in days going down the road we're going to need more and want to make sure we have fresh bodies available...We're lucky to have the community we have."
Boyd encourages everyone to especially avoid the hardest hit areas around the Mall at Turtle Creek, Caraway Rd, Highland Dr, and the Farville curve.

There is not a list of road closures at this time as they are constantly changing as debris is being cleared.
Day spoke on Brookland damage, saying that about 20 houses had structure damage but no injuries. The hardest hit area was at the Busch Agri facility which was damaged significantly.
Judge Day gets emotional when asked about the community response following the #JonesboroTornado: "This is such a great place to live, people love each other."
(Not gonna lie, it was impossible not to get choked up when Judge Day got choked up.)
On CWL & Craighead Co Electric outages: As of last night, were calling in outside contractors and others to come help, but all of the substations were up. A lot to do, but in pretty decent shape all things considered.
The #Jonesboro airport is currently shut down and they are dealing with a fuel leak, but no other details to report at this time.
Craighead Co Dir of Emergency Mgmt Anthony Coy updates on the train derailment: the worst thing on the train was ethanol, so no Hazmat suits needed for cleanup. Essentially, it's just a big wreck with Union Pacific now taking over.
Coy also says that if you are participating in the clean-up effort, please dress appropriately. If you show up in flip-flops and shorts, you will be sent home.
Congressman Crawford also reminds people to be aware during the times of cleanup that we are still in the midst of a pandemic.

Please do not forget this. This is also a big reason not to rush out and help without being previously instructed to.
