The greatest sin we can commit against those lost to covid-19 -- both those we've already lost, and those whose losses are to come -- is to pretend that this was inevitable.

Their deaths were not simply happenstance, but a result of failures to preserve and build and take care.
We are exactly at a moment in time where we'll see the attempt made to invert this truth -- to discredit the cause of these deaths as merely nature being nature.

But our society stands athwart nature to preserve life in countless contexts. It could have done so here, but didn't.
Many will claim that the call to hold accountable those who've caused these deaths is "politics," and so either inappropriate or best suited to another time

Call it whatever you will, but holding responsible those who've enabled the deaths of more than 100,000 Americans is vital
It is a discredit to a murder victim to simply say, "that's life."

It is a discredit to the victims of lack of preparation, organization, and action -- the victims of covid-19 -- to simply move forward, saying "that's life."

That's not life, that's a cult of death.
We must, to be true to the memory of these victims of the coronavirus, be persistently vigilant in calling out the failures that led to this monstrosity, this relentless killing of so many thousands of our fellow Americans.

We must do so now, and we must do so persistently.
How many Americans *had* to die as a result of the coronavirus? Almost certainly some, and almost certainly far, far fewer than 100,000.

It is no overstatement to say that 100,000 deaths lay at the hands of those who failed to fulfill their proper duties and roles in society.
How do we honor those we've lost due to corruption and failure and disregard and greed, in the coronavirus response?

We honor them by remembering their loss as it truly was, by letting their memory keep us from enabling the killing of numerous others

Let their deaths save lives
Let the deaths of coronavirus victims save lives by showing the world what happens when we pull apart the pieces of society that were meant to keep us safe -- when we shred backup plans and safety nets, and warning systems and scientific study.

Let's prevent the next deaths.
To pretend that the victims of coronavirus were simply a result of nature would be to make this horror-show of death, this abattoir our country has become, seem like a victimless crime

But there are victims of covid-19

They were preyed upon by a society that chose not to care
What happens when you disregard the science?

What happens when you stop creating emergency supplies?

What happens when you embrace an individualism that removes collective responsibility?

People die, and they're dying now because our country killed them.
We cannot forget that the #covidfallen in America are victims not of a natural process, but of human failure in preparation:
