Over the past few weeks of #covid19 confinement - or #shelteringinplace as they say in the US - we have been able to witness (and sometimes support) a number of organizations in their move to #remotework
We believe our experience with implementing #NWoW - #futureofwork in North America - is a helpful lens in seeing both the challenges and changes organizations face when switching to #remotework... some observations:
Organizations that are technologically well-equipped for #remotework before #covid19 were obviously advantaged, but... it was much easier for organizations that were already culturally fit/ready! #orgculture
You may have the best tech and tools, but if your people don't have the right #collaboration #behavior and #mindset, tech and tools are useless... A quality meeting with good ol' #Skype is better than a lousy meeting with #Zoom!
If you organization wasn't into #collaboration #transparency #trust and similar values before #covid19, these won't suddenly appear! #CultureChange remains a slow process, a long-term investment...
In times of crisis - #covid19 or other - people understand the urgency of #change, they are willing to adapt, go the extra mile... but #leadership in times of crisis is NOT pushing people to their limits, it's showing #empathy and being useful! #servantleadership
#MiddleManagement needs extra support in times of #covid19 #uncertainty: they face the contradictory expectations of top management and their own teams, they need to keep the business running despite lacking guidance...
For top management, now is the time to be #humble (no one has the answers), guide by example (acknowledge #uncertainty), listen, share, and reflect, appreciate the value of #creativity and #innovation, and be tolerant with experimentation...
