According to a media report, Belgian investigators in the German-speaking part of the country prevented an attack by two ISIS sympathizers on the police.

The young people between the ages of 16 and 17 had planned knife attacks on police officers, according to judicial circles. Accordingly, the two had recorded a video in which they claimed to be ISIS members.

As the broadcaster RTBF reported, citing unnamed sources, the two minors were arrested at the weekend in the Eupen region near the German border near Aachen.

The minors are said to have committed themselves to the terrorist organization Islamic State in a video. However, this has not yet been officially confirmed.

The Eupen public prosecutor said that since the proceedings affected minors, there would be no further communications for the time being. It was accessed two days before the terrorist attack in Vienna. The terrorist organization Islamic State claimed this attack for itself.

Justice Minister Van Quickenborne said he was aware of the case. The situation was always under control. The arrests showed that the security services were doing a very good job, but also that the terrorist threat persisted.
