Three inmates were killed and 64 others injured in a riot in a penitentiary in the Philippines. According to the authorities,
it was initially unclear what triggered the violence in the New Bilibid Prison maximum security prison in the city of Muntinlupa near Manila. As recently as October, nine people were killed in clashes between rival gangs in the prison.
It was still unclear whether the two incidents were related. 18,000 inmates are held in the notorious New Bilibid Prison. Surveillance cameras are only installed in strategic places, and the prisoners are not guarded around the clock.
