#China’s contribution to the global response was best seen in six respects: China raced against time & was the first country to report cases to the world; took the most rigorous measures to fight #Covid19; conducted the largest-scale online exchanges on epidemic response; ...
provided urgently needed assistance by launching the largest global emergency humanitarian campaign since the founding of New #China; did its best as the largest manufacturer of medical supplies; and was the first to pledge to make #vaccines a global public good.

Over the years, #China’s relationship with the #EU has withstood profound changes in the world. It has focused on dialogue, cooperation and mutual benefit, and demonstrated strong vitality by progressing with the times. 🇨🇳🇪🇺
It is important to stay committed to peaceful coexistence, open cooperation, #multilateralism, and dialogue and consultation. #China and the #EU are comprehensive strategic partners, not systemic rivals.
In 2020, #China became the #EU's largest trading partner for the first time. The two sides signed the agreement on #GeographicalIndications, decided to establish high-level dialogue mechanisms on #environment & #climate and on digital cooperation, and concluded #BIT negotiations.

Glad to have given an interview on China-UK relations to Global Times @globaltimesnews, which was published on 17 August, 2020 in the newspaper and on the website. The full transcript of the interview is as follows: globaltimes.cn/content/119790… Image
Q: On UK's moves on BNO, Huawei&Hong Kong, what counter-measures will China take?
A: The UK Government, in disregard of China's solemn representations, is bent on carrying out political manipulation on the issues of BNO and the extradition treaty with Hong Kong. Image
A: The Chinese side strongly opposes such acts of the UK side which openly go against its own pledge, violate international law and the basic norms governing international relations, and blatantly interfere in Hong Kong affairs, which are internal affairs of China.

I took questions on #Xinjiang at online press conference and debunked the lies permeating Western media. They are “the lies of the century” and have been used to discredit China&interfere in China’s internal affairs. I want to let facts be known & show the real Xinjiang.
First, Xinjiang-related issues have nothing to do with human rights, ethnic groups or religions, but everything to do with fighting violent terrorism, separatism&extremism. Since 1990s, violent attacks have caused devastating casualties of innocent people&huge loss of property.
Anti-terrorism and de-radicalisation measures have been very effective: there has not been a single terrorist attack for 3+ years in a row in Xinjiang, and the basic rights of all ethnic groups, especially the rights to life, health and development, are fully safeguarded.

I held a press conference on China-UK relations today. 2020 marks the 5th anniversary of China-UK "Golden Era"-- a positive momentum should be cherished. But this relationship has recently run into a series of difficulties&faced a grave situation. chinese-embassy.org.uk/eng/dshdjjh/t1…
What is happening to China-UK relationship? What has caused current difficulties? My answer is loud and clear: China has not changed. It is the UK that has changed. The UK side should take full responsibility for the current difficulties in China-UK relationship.
First, China’s determination to follow basic norms governing international relations has not changed. China has never interfered in internal affairs of other countries, including UK, &we ask the same from other countries. Recently, the principles have been violated time&again.

On July 16, I gave an online interview to Catherine Philp, diplomatic correspondent @thetimes. On July 18,The Times reported on interview but failed to reflect truthfully what I said&misrepresented China’s position on some important issues.Transcript below. chinese-embassy.org.uk/eng/dshdjjh/t1…
Q: Is this the worst the relations have been between UK-China?
A: During my 10 years time here, I've seen the relationship continue to move forward despite twists and turns.
A: We had seen British leaders meeting with the Dalai Lama, the leader of separatist movement, a departure from British commitment to one-China policy and regarding Tibet as a part of China.

On 6 July, I shared my views on #NationalSecurityLaw in HKSAR with nearly 50 journalists from 33 British, Chinese and international media agencies at an on-line press conference and answered their questions. Watch Q&A below. Image
Q: Can you give details about corresponding measures to UK's policy on BNO?
A: China-UK relations have to be based on principles governing international relations: That is mutual respect for sovereignty&territorial integrity, non-interference in each other's internal affairs.
A: In the past 70 years, the relationship has on the whole moved forward. When these principles are abided by, we would see the leaps and bounds of the relationship. But when these principles are violated, the relationship will suffer setbacks and even retrogression.
