Japan’s militarist past, marked by devastating wars of aggression and brutal crimes against humanity, brought untold suffering on this region and beyond. Instead of drawing serious lessons from its past, Japan has displayed a dangerous tendency of rearming itself, with sharp rises in its annual defense spending for the 11th year running and constant readjustment of its defense policy aimed at military breakthrough.

The US-Japan joint statement contains manipulated & misleading narratives aimed at justifying military build-up by propagating & hyping up the so-called “nuclear threat from China”. We firmly reject this.
China is firmly committed to a defensive nuclear strategy. We have honored our pledge to “no first use” of nuclear weapons at any time and under any circumstances and unconditionally not to use or threaten to use nuclear weapons against non-nuclear weapon states or nuclear-weapon-free zones.

In respons to a paper prepared by the EU’s foreign service advising members to diversify supply chains away from China, FM spokesperson said the global industrial & supply chains, as they currently exist, are the result of the combined force of market & the choices of businesses. Arbitrarily placing curbs for political purposes disrupts international cooperation and destabilizes industrial and supply chains. It is not conducive to the development of industries and serves no country’s interest.

China’s complete reunification is a process that cannot be halted. National reunification is an essential step towards national rejuvenation. Peaceful cross-Strait reunification is of benefit not only to the Chinese nation, but to all peoples & the int'l community as a whole. We call on the international community to have a right understanding of the Taiwan question, support China’s reunification, enhance commitment to the one-China principle and unequivocally reject “Taiwan independence”.

The one-China principle brooks no distortion or challenge. The connotation of the one-China principle is crystal-clear, i.e. there is only one #China in the world & #Taiwan is part of China. The Government of the #PRC is the sole legal government representing the whole of China. The #one-China principle is a prevailing international consensus and widely accepted basic norm in international relations. It is affirmed in #UNGA Resolution 2758. It is the political foundation for interactions between #China and all countries in the world.

The #CPC and #Chinese government have always been committed to realizing complete national reunification. Resolving #Taiwan question & realizing complete national reunification is the shared aspiration of all #Chinese people & a commitment & a historical mission of the #CPC. #PeacefulReunification & #OneCountryTwoSystems are our fundamental guidelines for resolving #Taiwan question. The reunification by peaceful means is the first choice of #CPC & #Chinese gov't in resolving #Taiwan question, as it best serves the interests of all #Chinese Nation.

#Taiwan is part of #China - this is an indisputable fact. There is only one China in the world and #Taiwan has belonged to China since ancient times. In 1895, #Japan forced the #Qing government to cede Taiwan after Japan’s war of aggression against China. In 1943, the #Cairo Declaration clearly stipulated that all the territories #Japan had stolen from #China, including #Taiwan, should be restored to China. The #Potsdam Proclamation of 1945 reiterated that “The terms of the Cairo Declaration shall be carried out.”

#China has respected the sovereignty of the Republic of Korea (#ROK) and understands its security concerns. However, since the #US deployment of the #THAAD anti-missile system in the ROK undermines China’s strategic security, the Chinese side cannot just look the other way. The #Chinese and #ROK foreign ministers held in-depth exchange of views on this issue during their recent meeting in #Qingdao, where they elaborated on the two sides’ respective positions and agreed to take each other’s security concerns seriously.

Wang Yi: With the situation across the Taiwan Strait still evolving, it is especially important that we stay vigilant against three dangerous trends: First, we must be vigilant that the United States, unwilling to accept defeat, might gang up with others to fan the flames and add oil to the fire, beef up military deployment in the region and further escalate the situation in an attempt to create a new and even bigger crisis.

The #US is the one who made the provocation first and started the crisis. The #DPP authorities have been seeking “#Taiwan independence” through soliciting US support. It is only legitimate, lawful and justified for #China to uphold its territorial integrity and oppose secession. The #UK turned a blind eye to the #US provocation and violation while groundlessly criticizing the countermeasures #China has taken for the sake of defending justice. This is typical double standard. It fully exposes the UK’s hypocrisy stemming from its imperialist past.

The #US deployment of #THAAD anti-missile system in the #ROK clearly undermines #China’s strategic security interest. China has made clear its concern to the ROK side on multiple occasions. #ROK officially announced its policy of “three nos & one restriction” (no additional deployment of #THAAD in ROK; no participation in a #US-led missile defense network; no involvement in a trilateral military alliance with the US & Japan; & restriction in use of THAAD deployed).

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between #China and the #ROK. Bilateral relations embrace important opportunities for development and also face some practical challenges. It is in the common interests of both sides to well maintain and develop bilateral relations, otherwise, the two countries will both suffer. This is the successful experience of the continuous development of bilateral relations over the past 30 years.

Today marks the 85th anniversary of the “#Lugou Bridge (Marco Polo Bridge) Incident”. 85 years ago today, #Japanese militarism created the so-called “Lugou Bridge (Marco Polo Bridge) Incident” to launch full-scale invasion of #China. After bloody battles and unyielding fight, the #Chinese people defeated the heinous #Japanese militarists and won the great victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. The #CPC was the pillar in achieving this great victory.

In his video call with Biden, President Xi pointed out China does not want to see situation in Ukraine to come to this. China stands for peace & opposes war. This is embedded in China’s history & culture. China makes a conclusion independently based on the merits of each matter. China advocates upholding international law and universally recognized norms governing international relations. China adheres to the UN Charter and promotes the vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security.

I took questions on #Xinjiang at online press conference and debunked the lies permeating Western media. They are “the lies of the century” and have been used to discredit China＆interfere in China’s internal affairs. I want to let facts be known & show the real Xinjiang. First, Xinjiang-related issues have nothing to do with human rights, ethnic groups or religions, but everything to do with fighting violent terrorism, separatism＆extremism.
