#Thread on the occasion of Battle of Lakhnauti's 776th anniversary.

This battle was fought on 14 March,1245 between Izzuddin Tughral Tughan Khan (Delhi Sultanate's Bengal Governor), & Narasimhadeva-I (Orissa King of Eastern Ganga dynasty)

#BattleofLakhnauti #Hindutva #Odisha
2.
Lakhnauti is another name of Gour, situated today near the Bangladesh border. It was the capital of Bengal province of Delhi Sultanate.

#BattleofLakhnauti
3.
Before sieging down Lakhnauti in 1245, Narasimhadeva-I's army had captured the Lakhanor quarters in the Rarh region (called Rāḍha - राढ़)

Lakhanor's commandant, Fakhrulmulk Karimuddin Laghri was killed, and the place was sacked.

#BattleofLakhnauti
4.
The Rarh region, located on the eastern banks of Ganga, formed one half of the Bengal province, while the other half lay beyond the Ganga. That region was known as Varendra.

The capital fort of Lakhnauti (Gour) was in the way!

#BattleofLakhnauti
5.
The ambitious Narasimhadeva-I desired to subjugate both the Muslim territories. Hence, he dashed onto the Lakhnauti fort and besieged it.

Seeing the Hindu forces at the gates of his capital, the Bengal governor sent calls for help to the Delhi Sultan.

#BattleofLakhnauti
6.
However, the help was not to arrive in time.

1245, 12 March: Izzuddin Tughral Tughan Khan sallied out of the fort & fought Narasimhadeva's army.

Minhajuddin describes Narasimhadeva's army to have war elephants & 'paiks' (footmen)

#BattleofLakhnauti
7.
The Odia army was victorious, and they occupied the capital fort of Lakhnauti!

#BattleofLakhnauti
8.
1245, 30 Apr: The help, which Izzuddin Tughral Khan had requested, arrived under Qamruddin Tamur Khan (Delhi Sultanate's Ayodhya Governor)

But, the 'helper' Qamruddin made Izzudin give up the province of Bengal & sent him to Delhi.

#BattleofLakhnauti
9.
In the meantime, Narasimhadeva, having the Gour fort under his control, proceeded to harass the Muslim territories of Varendra.

He returned to Odisha with his armies at the onset of monsoon.

#BattleofLakhnauti
10.
A 1295 grant describes the aftermath of Battle of Lakhnauti.

'The river Ganga was blackened, and rendered waveless by the tears of Yavanis of Rāḍha & Varendra'

#BattleofLakhnauti
11.
Narasimhadeva's victories against Delhi Sultanate inspired the title of 'Yavan-avani-vallabha' on him.

#BattleofLakhnauti
12.
This was just one, among the series of aggressive campaigns of Narasimhadeva-I in his 26-year-long reign.

His proactive policy against Muslim imperialism proved effective & stopped Muslim incursions for the next century!

Aindryābhiṣek, aka Mahābhiṣek, is done for starting a new line of Indra.

Bharata, son of Duṣyanta, himself did Aindryābhiṣek. Its procedure is given in Aitareya Brahmana (part of Rigved) ImageImageImage
3.
Previous coronations in Deccan were a mix of Vedic & Puranic rites, whereas Shivaji Maharaj intended for a purely Vedic one (Aindryābhiṣek), which hadn't been done for previous several centuries.

A #thread on busting some myths around the coronation of Shivaji Maharaj.

Coronation of Shivaji Maharaj was one of the revolutionary event of the 17th century India. Amidst all the Sultanates & Mughal Empire, a Hindu warrior crowns himself as a King!
#ShivajiMaharaj #Hindutva
2.
However, there are some myths that need to be busted. Historian Jadunath Sarkar has developed some myths about Coronation & Kshatriya Hood of Shivaji Maharaj.

He called Bhosales as Śudras & mere tillers of soil. Jadunath also says that they were "popularly known" as such.
3.
This is a ridiculous thing to claim, without any shred of evidence.

This thread will provide the evidence, showing that many people contemporary of Shivaji Maharaj knew, that he *was* a born Kshatriya.
