1) Cases in schools have ⬆️ since schools fully opened on 8th Mar.
Everyone knew they would.
#SAGE predicted it.
UK schools remain NON #CovidSecure & 1000s of kids are isolating AGAIN.
Some clinicians are turning a blind eye & have joined the #antimask campaign.
#COVIDisAirborne - #MasksSaveLives & #VentilationMatters.
Smaller classes sizes & using #blendedlearning would protect individuals AND ⬇️disruption.
Advice on how to #MakeSchoolsSafe is abundant & accessible.

The Easter holidays give us some time & space to act, but while funding & political will are lacking, the school community remains very exposed to an #airborne🦠 that can cause severe illness, death & long term morbidity.

IT IS NOT TOO LATE TO IMPROVE MITIGATIONS & SAVE LIVES!

1) Y’day I saw a patient who wanted this story told.

The 40+ yr old X was diagnosed w/ #Covid19 on 24th Dec.
X’s teenage daughter was sent home from school to isolate during the last week of term after a friend developed #Covid.
X was previously fit & well, on no medication.
2) X spent 2 weeks in January in hospital, followed by a month in bed at home.
By March X started to improve a bit but due to overwhelming symptoms of breathlessness on exertion, fatigue & “brain fog” was able to do very little.
3) X could not work & a referral to the #LongCovid clinic followed.

Over recent days X became more breathless & incapacitated which eventually resulted in hospital admission.

1) I read w/ interest the 24/3 @hartgroup_org #Covid19 bulletin.

”..there is no evidence that masks significantly ⬇️ transmission when worn routinely in REAL-WORLD SETTINGS.”

A RCT of 😷wearing during a pandemic of an #airborne 🦠would surely be completely unethical? ImageImage
2)”...face coverings are fuelling widespread, irrational fear when the current viral threat is very low & the vulnerable have been vaccinated.”

The ⬇️in cases has completely flattened & the majority of vulnerable ppl have had 1 vaccine dose.
Fear of an #airborne 🦠IS RATIONAL.
3) “Hart believes the Government should now lift the *mask* mandate & allow ppl to decide for themselves whether to wear one.”

A group of scientists, healthcare professionals & psychologists etc believe THIS is the right moment to ditch the wearing of 😷s?

1)Sally, w/ respect, why aren’t British children able to tolerate what children around the world are doing during a pandemic, WITHOUT COMPLAINT?
This virus can kill & cause long term debilitating illness.
It has caused devastation across the globe physically & economically.
2) Why wouldn’t we say -
“This is a difficult situation for us all.
We all want to come out of lockdown w/out causing more illness, death & effects on the economy.
To do this safely EVERYONE MUST HELP REDUCE TRANSMISSION.
We hope you want to be part of this.”
3) This is what I’d say to my children if they were still at school...

“Just for a few hrs a day, to let you all be in school together, PLEASE JUST #WearAMask & accept it’s not 100% comfortable but #MasksSaveLives & YOU can be part of the solution.”

Another excellent, practical resource for school heads to use to improve mitigation w/in UK schools.
As approx 10M ppl mix w/ virtually none of this in place it’s hard to believe that it won’t result in kicking off another #COVID19 surge w/ a BIG BANG! 1/8
Everyone able to effect change should read it & consider which side of the DEBATE they wish to be in over next few months.
False reassurances about the use of #lateralflowtests by the government & those prepared to support them on TV/media have attempted to hide to truth. 2/
Celebrity #antimaskers have continued to apply pressure & w/ the help of #Tory backed #UsForThem have successfully made #Masksinclass an OPTION, whilst children across the world, as young as 6 #WearAMask at school w/ out complaint or issue.
Dangerous #BritishExceptionalism! 3/

Mr Tice, are you aware that #COVIDisAirborne ?

Have you heard about the #B117 #covidvariant which is much more transmissible & a bit more “lethal”.

Do you realise, & accept, what will happen when classes are packed full of children again in a couple of weeks? 1/7
No children & very few staff or parents of school age children will be vaccinated by 8th March.

Do you understand what that means? Because your repeated rantings about masks are very ignorant & dangerous.

Is that your intention? 2/
Do you feel comfortable knowing that trying to stop children wearing masks at school will directly lead to more #COVID19 in pupils, teachers, parents & family members, ESPECIALLY if they are clinically vulnerable or extremely vulnerable?

Whichever way you spin it, a BIG BANG return to FULL opening of ALL English schools on a single day is INSANE!
Mixing 10M children w/ all the staff that it will entail, with current disease prevalence & more transmissible variants is a sure fire way to INCREASE TRANSMISSION!1/8
As cases rise, WHICH THEY WILL, it’ll be impossible to know which age ranges are responsible quickly & change course without causing absolute havoc to the education of the children & to the lives of their working & non-working parents. 2/
And of course, that’s not even considering the effect on the individuals who may needlessly become seriously ill w/ #COVID19, get #LongCovid or sadly die.
On so many levels, a phased return is needed...NO....
IS ESSENTIAL to allow careful monitoring & a chance to change tack. 3/
