Today at 2.30 we will be giving evidence to Women & Equalities Committee alongside @fairplayforwomen @filia_pix #womenatwesc Thank you for all your messages and long-standing support. Nothing about us without us.
Our portfolio of written consultation submissions relating to the rights of women including this #WESC consultation can be viewed here

Many organisations that should have facilitated informed #debate around the consultation failed to do so- leaving this work to women to organise at a grassroots level, at a huge cost to themselves.
'We do not believe that a lack of means should be a barrier to a GRC.
However in context It is noted that the Government made no concessions in the #DABill to 'no recourse to public funds'.
'We cant agree with the wording of 'living in role' for 2 yrs as this embeds #sexism into law, however a period of reflection for 2 yrs seems proportionate'
Dr Judith Green cites the Hillary Cass NHS review, and states that more work should be done to understand 'why so many young people & children are unhappy with their sex'
'Women should not be trapped in marriage when terms of the marriage change.
Contextually 1/4 women suffer #DA in relationships & spousal consent should be viewed in this context'
'The spousal consent is often referred to as a 'spousal veto'. This is misunderstood to infer that a spouse can veto GRC.
This misinformation may explain why so many people responded to the consultation asking for it to be removed'
'We call for independent, readily available compassionate support as well as legal advice to be made available for spouses of transitioning partners (most frequently women) who find themselves in a very complex & difficult situation'
@AngelaCrawley30 for #WESC asks where self ID conflicts with SSEs as outlined in law
Dr Green cites the recent case of the Harrogate Turkish baths & how their misinterpretation of that law led to a reduction of single-sex sessions for women
This case also led to new rules around attire- although sessions were called single-sex there was an expectation that members of the opp sex would self identify into that space
'There are so many examples of law being misunderstood and misapplied'
What evidence is there that trans women (men who identify as women) pose a threat to women? #WESC
'There is a fundamental misunderstanding of the functions of single-sex spaces. SSS also exist to provide because their is a positive benefit from them'
'We are disappointed that the @EHRC has not submitted evidence to this consultation, but simply re-submitted their previous evidence (now out dated) from 2018'
'There are already an adequate stat definition of sex. Gender is more problematic to define as it is a cultural association with sex, without embedding #sexism into law'.
“We also want to be clear that this is an explorative consultation and we do not have all the answers. That is why, as we consult, we are mindful of the need to engage with all perspectives... #WomenAtWESC
“We particularly want to hear from women’s groups who we know have expressed some concerns about the implications of our proposals... #WomenAtWESC

THREAD: SEX AND THE CENSUS: 15 different organisations have come together to launch a joint campaign on #Census2021 The census has always asked “What is your sex”? We believe people should answer the census accurately & honestly. See campaign website sexinthecensus.org /1
We think that this is the best way to collect information needed to understand the population and to plan and fund public services. Counting the number of male & female citizens is vital for the census, & because the census sets standard for other data-collection across society.
The @ONS disagrees. It is planning to tell people they don’t need to answer the census “sex” question with their biological sex. Instead it will direct them to self-identify as male or female, relying on any “legal document” they choose. /3 #SexInTheCensus
