Six months into the conflict, Tigrays situation remains grim, with over 5 million people in desperate need of security and humanitarian aid. Over 20,000 Eritrean refugees remain unaccounted for; civilians are subjected to systematic sexual and
gender-based brutality, extrajudicial killings, forced displacement, mass expropriation of land, malnutrition, destruction of basic infrastructure and crops, and looting. There are currently over 1.7 million internally displaced people (IDPs),
but many areas are still inaccessible. Despite some initial progress on humanitarian access, due to capacity problems, bureaucratic impediments, active combat, and obstruction by Eritrean and Ethiopian armed forces, the level of assistance remains very small.
The Tigray crises' spillover impact and the pre-election timeframe are exacerbating tensions in many areas across Ethiopia, resulting in large-scale displacement.
