THREAD!

Let's have a thread on rocket artillery.

#RocketArtillery

The Good News: Everybody likes them!!!

The Bad News: The US military and major western powers can't compete 😒

The current trend among militaries who are supplied by national "defense" industries with rocket artillery is to go bigger...and bigger.

Don't look at #NorthKorea

How about #India ?

The pay off for having the manufacturing small, medium, and large caliber munitions is one of the most rewarding for countries obsessed with their national security.

If you can build small rockets, you can build large ones, and then develop an independent spacw program!!!

3/--
Just look at #Indonesia being so late in the game...

4/--

By comparison, look how far #Turkey has gone with its rocket munitions, which are developed and manufactured by a state-owned company!!!

Thanks to Chinese technology transfers, the rocket and missile technology of #Turkey has advanced so fast in the past 3 decades it 's now the only NATO ally with a domestic ballistic missile program

7/--

Not surprisingly, #Turkey is now collaborating with SpaceX to advance its own space program whose goal is delivering satellites to orbit.

There's a straight line running from the factories that make rocket munitions and national efforts to reach outer space.

There's an abundance of evidence that rocket artillery is extremely lethal and always endangers civilian lives.

Still, poor arms control for rocket artillery--along with other types of artillery--means warmongering states get away with so much

The #USA isn't a bystander in all this.

The export of the HIMARS to allies in the MidEast means while Washinton,DC talks big on an "Iran threat" it fuels an arms race that feeds the anxieties of Gulf states.

Seeing how the #USA is pouring billions of $$$ in arms to the GCC, #Iran returns the favor with even larger quantities of rockets and missiles for its "friends"

A fascinating aspect of current rocket munition development is there seems to be no evidence their mass-production costs much.

Indeed, manufacturing large quantities of rockets makes more sense than an air force or navy.

Ex. 1: North Korea

There's ample evidence several Asian and African countries have acquired the means to produce rocket artillery on their own with minimal cost.

A few examples:

#Algeria
#Bangladesh
#Syria
#Sudan
#Thailand

In all cases it appears #China is their main patron.

14/--
For #China to export its expertise and advanced weaponry everywhere makes sense for Beijing.

Countries that purchase weapons from China have a strong inclination *against* the West and it helps to have superior weapons.

Because...

15/--

21stcenturyasianarmsrace.com/2019/07/25/chi…
Never forget that #China is so generous to illiberal countries it can give them cutting edge military technology they can proceed to export.

Look at #Belarus

The abundance of rocket artillery is nearly overwhelming and this will drive a gap between the West vs. the Rest.

The West might have fancy F-35's but the Rest now dominate ground warfare at the operational and strategic levels due to rocket technology.

#NorthKorea

17/--
I have a feeling #Iraq will try and restore its *former glory* of having the MidEast's largest rocket arsenal.

Baghdad is reviving a lot of munitions factories, including the ones that make rocket munitions.

Guess what? These Iraqi rockets originate in China!!!
