#Indonesia’s elite counterterrorism squad has arrested a convicted militant and suspected leader of an #AlQaeda-linked group that has been blamed for a string of past bombings in the country.
Abu Rusdan was seized late Friday in Bekasi near the capital of #Jakarta, along with three other suspected members of Jemaah Islamiyah.

He is currently known to be active among the unlawful Jemaah Islamiyah network’s leadership.
Indonesian authorities consider Rusdan to be a key figure in the Jemaah Islamiyah, which the U.S. has designated a terrorist group.
The shadowy Southeast Asian network is widely blamed for attacks in the #Philippines and #Indonesia — including the 2002 bombings in the Indonesian resort island of #Bali that killed 202 people, mostly foreign tourists.
Born in Central Java, Rusdan, 61, was sentenced to jail in 2003 for sheltering Ali Ghufron, a militant who was later convicted and executed for carrying out the Bali bombings.
After his release from prison in 2006, Rusdan traveled Indonesia giving speeches and fiery sermons that received tens of thousands of views on YouTube.

In one recorded sermon, he praised as the “land of jihad” Afghanistan — the country where he had previously trained with other militant groups.
A spokesman for Indonesia’s National Intelligence Agency, Wawan Hari Purwanto, said in a video statement early this month that following the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan, officials have stepped up their efforts at early detection and prevention...
“particularly toward terrorist groups that have links to the #Taliban’s ideology and networks.”

How much of a difference can 100 miles and effective social media surveillance make? A whole lot if you take Taiwan’s success against #COVID19 into consideration.
#Taiwan, is only around 100 miles away from the coast of south eastern China. The country has a lot of trade and exchange with #China and yet is at a healthily low 159th position when it comes to the COVID19 standings. Taiwan only has a paltry 455 cases and 7 deaths.
If someone were to place a bet on Taiwan having only 455 cases after 6 months of #COVID19, that too without nationwide lockdowns, that person would have become a billionaire now. #Taiwan owes its success to technology. Period.

Ever wondered how many permissions you grant when you install a Chinese app on your mobile handsets?

When data is regarded as the vital fuel for the digital economy, data-access requests that most Chinese mobile applications make outnumber their non-Chinese alternatives.

****Long Thread on #PoolTesting****

This is the time for India to increase the ratio of #Pool tests.

The number of #COVID19 cases in #India has seen a constant rise over the past two weeks. This has been concerning considering that most cities are gradually coming out...
...of the lockdown. Domestic flights have resumed operations and soon, we may see other relaxations coming into effect. Offices and factories are opening up across states and this may certainly lead to a new wave of cases being identified.
#COVID19India #PoolTesting
As of the morning of 27th May, the top four infected states in India, which are Maharashtra, Tamilnadu, Gujarat & Delhi amount to around 67% of the total cases recorded in India. But, the concern has also been the rising number of cases in states that were very much in control...

Is it a Smokescreen or Blatant escalation?

**A Long Thread on the latest developments at the Indo-China Border**

China is in no mood for damage limitation; nor is it interested to repair its relations with nations it has had a frictional relationship.

Perhaps, this is a post-pandemic normal. China strangely is in a hurry. Amidst all the COVID-19 commotion, China continued its provocations in the #SouthChinaSea. Now that China is back on its feet, they have started from where they left off in #HongKong... #INDIA #CHINA
...by initiating a new National security law that has come to a lot of criticism. In the Line of Actual control, India and China have been engaged in heightened extensions in terms of troop and machinery build up on both sides. #INDIA #CHINA

Today, I'm going to write about the newly developed "TraceTogether" mobile APP in #Singapore that makes contact tracing very easy.

This has only been released 2 days ago for us in Singapore.

let me explain how this works.

The idea is simple; if you have a smartphone, all you have to do is install an APP (only around 4 Mb) and let it work in the background forever with your Bluetooth ON.

What the APP does is that it constantly looks for another phone nearby with the same APP installed and when this
happens, both phones exchange an encrypted code to identify individual users.

In this way, the phone maintains a list of those in close contact every day.

A few of my friends and followers have asked me to write a thread.. rather a "simple primer" on how to act responsibly if one was to catch a cold... Or possibly a #COVID19India infection in India...

So here goes...
Firstly, It is important to be mentally prepared that India will see a fair amount of cases. It's inevitable as the fact remains that the world is a lot more connected today and we will have a spread that may affect hundreds or thousandths in India.

The WHO and other medical associations advise people to be on the lookout for symptoms such as fever, cough(even dry cough), cold, sore throat and breathing difficulties.

Otherwise, people may also experience nausea, diarrhea and runny nose. #COVID19India
