We’ve laid out some of the evidence against the homophobic practice of conversion therapy, currently known as “transition.” Now let’s talk about what lesbians in the U.S. need & want. 🧵

1. Lesbians United demands that U.S. legislators sign bills into law that explicitly prevent doctors from prescribing artificial hormones & hormone blockers for non-lifesaving reasons, esp. to minors.

2. Genital mutilation must be outlawed in the U.S., and the law must be clear that the definition of GM includes ALL cosmetic genital surgeries. Criminalize doctors who perform these procedures, and protect their victims.

3. Lesbians United demands that @APAPsychiatric remove “gender dysphoria” from the #DSM, on the grounds that a) the entry explicitly refers to sexist and homophobic stereotypes and pathologizes children who show early signs of homosexuality, and

@APAPsychiatric @US_FDA @POTUS 9. Lesbians United demands that laws and policies that deprive lesbians of female safe spaces be repealed. Lesbians must be permitted to gather, socialize, and organize. We must be permitted to use locker rooms and restrooms safely, or we are excluded from society.

We’ve seen many L/G/B orgs prioritize strings-attached donations over our human rights, and we will not repeat their mistakes.
