Day 35 of #Russia's war of choice.
5 whole weeks of hatred, death and destruction.
For what?
Talks of peace, and "scaling back" yesterday were followed by missiles fired across #Ukraine at night.
All the news, and a few views of mine, in this thread⬇️
1/2 A few people write saying #Ukraine should compromise or #Ukraine should give up on NATO or Crimea or Donbas etc.
Let me remind you #Ukraine is neutral. It never invaded any country. It was never at war until Russia invaded (twice).
Any compromise is rewarding the aggressor
2/2 It's an old tactic.
Bully. Wage war. Demand unattainable amounts.
Appear to lower your demands and you've compromised! Is everyone stupid?
Please also remember Putin is a compulsive liar. He broke written agreements over Ukraine, he promised not to invade. Do not trust him!
I make no apologies for highlighting this again.
I posted it late last night so you may have missed it. Incredible footage.
But a warning - very graphic, one body at the end of the video. #Mariupol#SaveUkraine
Sky News in the UK casting doubts on whether #Irpin is really under Ukrainian control.
Russian troops have not been seen in the town near Kyiv for a couple of days since #Ukraine liberated it. That does not mean Russia cannot shell the streets from a few kilometres away.
More air strikes and a single territorial objective.
Russia's arrogance meant they tried a multi-axis approach initially with ill disciplined and poorly motivated troops.
#Donetsk's puppet "government" says Ukraine has hit a residential building.
One person died and four were injured in the city, although all information needs to be treated sceptically.
#Russia says #Ukraine has laid mines in the Black Sea endangering commercial vessels.
Ukraine hits back saying 🇷🇺 is using mines stolen when occupying Crimea in 2014, making it look like 🇺🇦 is responsible.
Also when could Ukraine have done it? RU controlled Black Sea from Day 1
The village of Lisichansk in #Luhansk region has been hit in the early hours today.
Governor Serhiy Haidai reports significant damage to high-rise buildings, but so far victims not known.
The town of #Khmelnytsky suffered three airstrikes last night. The regional council says they targeted industrial facilities. Firefighting is ongoing, no information on casualties and no further pictures yet aside from the one last night.
In #Donetsk, it's now reported two people died in this explosion. A new video has been published.
One child is also in hospital
#Chernihiv's governor angrily rejects Russian claims of decreased activity in his city.
Vyacheslav Chaus says all night long they were attacking Chernihiv and #Nizhyn. Civilian infrastructure facilities, libraries, shopping centers, many houses were destroyed," he said.
In #Kherson it's reported that a priest has been kidnapped this morning.
Serhiy Chudinovich was reportedly snatched from his church two hours ago by unknown/unmarked men.
Meanwhile no let up in fighting in Kherson region overnight as #Ukraine forces edge closer to the city
In #Mariupol' Ukrainians have published this drone shot which they say proves Russians have been attacking a Red Cross centre in the city.
I'm not sure there's enough evidence here of air and artillery shelling they claim.
One of the buildings struck in #Kyiv overnight was another food warehouse.
#Ukraine's Emergency Services have just released this video from the scene.
Early yesterday I reported on the movement of Russian troops and equipment retreating into Belarus (later confirmed by Rus as part of their "scaling back")
I said it's likely to be redeployed. Now loads of RU gear rolls into #Sumy region, NE Ukraine

It does appear that Russia is redoubling efforts to destroy the rest of the #Donbas in a bid to achieve its "new" objective.
This morning air strikes on Maryinka + Novomykhailivka, followed by heavy shelling.
Also firing in Avdiivka and Krasnohorivka - there are deaths.
Here's the moment of the second air strike to hit #Khmelnytsky overnight.
Video just published.
The Editor of a popular Russian science magazine has been arrested while with her 4 year old daughter.
Vera Bashmakova, who's in charge of the publication "Biomolecule" was charged with "discrediting #Russia's Armed Forces"
Her crime? Having "no war" sticker on her car.
Confirmation of what I've been saying about #Chernihiv.
Somewhere in #Ukraine, a Russian military column was taken out from above. Among the destroyed was a BUK missile launcher.
Ukraine no longer says where hits are made.
Now a few lines from #Kharkiv.
Firstly, a resident of the battered city shows us the very centre of town - the caption says "a little walk in central Kharkiv"
But the people of #Kharkiv show us - no matter how bad things are better times are always ahead.
Despite almost certainly more bombing this evening, as is the case every night, they take great care to tidy up. This is Freedom Square, site of the massive blast 4 weeks ago
And here is the local government building in central #Kharkiv. Great work to make the repairs so quickly.
A fantastic statement to #Russia - they can bomb, but they will never destroy the spirit of #Ukraine.
In some ways Freedom Sq looks even better than before.
Also a good day in the skies of #Kharkiv. #Ukraine's Air Force says it shot down 3 Russian fighter planes during the day as well as an enemy drone.
Mayor of #Irpin says 200-300 citizens died during the battles. #Ukraine liberated the west Kyiv commuter town earlier this week.
Various reports that Russian forces are withdrawing from near Brovary, east of #Kyiv.
Two columns, with an estimated total of 350 pieces of military equipment, are heading further east. Likely to be put into battle in the Donbas soon.
A word of caution here.
Now #Russia seems to have got its tactics right, #Ukraine has a huge challenge.
Putin clearly doesn't care about casualties. If the coming all out assault on Donbas is not repelled Russia will fancy its chances of picking off areas one by one.
A lot of political stories this evening but not much news from the front. A few missiles launched, one lands in Dnipro.
All the big events I'll write up in the new thread for Thursday

We've already reached Day 34 of #Russia's illegal war in #Ukraine.
It's the day when peace talks resume, but I'm guessing the attendees will be careful about cups of tea, chocolates or shaking hands after the nerve agent stories yesterday.
All war updates here⬇️ in real time:
Front lines haven't moved much for a week.
Russia's almost taken #Mariupol (see end of yday's thread).
But a little west #Ukraine troops advance towards trying to reclaim occupied #Kherson.
This post says Russians seem to be leaving the city all morning
Govt pledging most citizens won't be unduly affected
Secretary of the Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov says "it can be restricting traffic, additional transport checks, documents checks. These issues are preventive, so that the country remains calm."
Tuesday's #Covid19 thread starts here. The arguments still raging in the #UK about "Living with Covid" following the announcement from the govt. that infected people no need to isolate from Thursday.
All the important data and news updated in this thread throughout the day
However I am commentating on tennis again today; 3 matches, long day.
I do try to reply all your queries but @SimonCalder here answers many that I'm repeatedly asked, using his judgement on the regular Q "when will xxxxland drop testing requirements?"
Not happened yet, but I will be very surprised if Russian tanks are not on Ukrainian territory by the morning. Initially in Donbas territories.
A few more made up "atrocities" or staged attacks will be broadcast by 21st century Lord Haw Haws and then a hot war on the frontline.
My guess is #Ukraine's forces are likely to be pushed back beyond the current frontline, which has been frozen for years. I doubt it will extend to Odesa, Kharkiv or even Mariupol' yet.
It will be symbolic advance, a few small villages, maybe Slovyansk.
I've not been wrong so far
