There are two things for certain that Indians are talking about this week – #PetrolPrice, and of course, the sweltering heat. After 9 out of 10 days of #FuelPriceHike, there are high chances that people might be talking about the fuel price rise more than the scorching sun.
Crude oil prices have been skyrocketing for several reasons that seem to be beyond the control of any country’s govt. Even the market can feel the impact of rising crude oil prices. The @StocktwitsIndia Stock Room Sunday episode discusses this in detail.
Since 2017, #petrol and #diesel prices have been revised on a daily basis by the public sector oil marketing companies. They determine the prices based on international crude oil prices, foreign exchange rates, tax structure, freight and other cost elements.
India depends heavily on crude oil imports, with some estimates pegging the number at over 80% of the country’s total oil needs. Lately, India has been importing crude from Russia, a country currently at war with Ukraine, and hit with sanctions from US and allies.
According to a BBC report, India bought around 12 million barrels of crude per day from Russia in 2021. Russia, which is bearing the brunt of heavy sanctions following its Ukraine invasion, has reportedly offered huge discounts to India for buying its crude.
This action has also invited a lot of flak on India’s stance in the ongoing #RussiaUkraineWar, even though it imports only a miniscule amount of its total oil needs from Russia at the moment.
There is another nation apart from India that may take advantage of the cheap Russian crude. As analysts believe, China could tap the discounted Russian crude market and purchase more oil from Russia.
Being the third largest oil importing nation, a fall in global oil prices will surely benefit India. And currently, there are two things Indians are eagerly waiting for – rains for respite from the rising temperatures and stability in petrol prices.

.@takiapp is a new #socialnetwork that, at first sight, seems to mimic Twitter and Facebook – after all, there are only so many ways to create a timeline of posts. But Taki comes with a twist – it rewards its users in the form of #crypto tokens, not likes or comments.
Building a #socialnetwork is not an easy task, and neither is creating a crypto token that stands out in a sea of #cryptocurrencies and tokens. But bringing the two together could seem like a novel idea that might just help a company stand out from the rest.
What started off as a temporary decline of tourism due to the 2019 serial blasts turned out to be a huge economic crisis for Sri Lanka. The local govt tried to control the situation with tax cuts and policy changes in 2019, but it only kept getting worse.
India’s southern neighbour is now struggling to provide electricity, fuel and basic essentials to its citizens, leading to a massive unrest among its citizens. The situation is so brim that the country had to cancel school exams due to shortage of paper.
Russia has invaded Ukraine, beyond the areas that were already in its control. Bad news is that neither the NATO troops led by the US backing Ukraine, nor Russia on the other side, are expected to back down anytime soon.
The official line is out there in every newspaper and media outlet. However, there are some benefits of this war for both the US and Russia, as explained by an expert.
Ukrainian citizens fled their homes after the first day of a full-scale invasion. Train stations were packed with people on the move and roads filled with cars of people leaving the country, with their loved ones and prized possessions in tow.
@VaamanaaSethi India has a special and privileged strategic partnership with Russia and is one of the few countries who haven’t criticised Russia’s decision of sending troops across the Ukraine border.
@VaamanaaSethi At the United Nations’s (UN) emergency meeting called by the Security Council, which was held on February 22, India spoke about the escalation of the tension and asked all the countries to exercise “utmost restraint”.
