7 Cruise missiles were fired by #Russia. One shot down, the others hit a village where 3 houses were destroyed while a school, cultural centre and cars were damaged
Another 45 bodies of fallen soldiers have been returned to #Ukraine in an exchange.
It's likely around 500 have now been repatriated from behind enemy lines.
Over 10,000 Ukrainians are being detained in #Mariupol
That's what #Ukraine's mayor Vadym Boychenko told a news briefing. "There are filtration centres in the city and just outside. All four were working all this time. And, unfortunately, they captured more than 10,000 locals."
No date on this, but #Ukraine's released a video of its National Guard "Special Unit" along with paratroopers, destroying a group of Russian soldiers near #Sloviansk .
Meanwhile in its evening summary, #Ukraine's General staff reports inflicting more "heavy losses" on #Russia's forces in Donetsk region , but this cannot be verified.
Ukraine says the invaders paid for failed offensives in Hryhorivka, Spirnyi and Ivano-Daryivka.
#Putin has been meeting #Erdogan in Iran - ostensibly to talk about release of grain from #Ukraine ports.
Russia has already been stealing and exporting grain, via Turkey, from the occupied regions of Ukraine.
#China has at times seemed to try to stay "neutral" i.e. not offend #Russia or #Ukraine, but finally what many suspected as the country's FM comes down firmly on the side of the aggressor, Putin.
As always one has to wonder at what China wants with such statements...
2/2
#China's FM spokesman Zhao Lijian:
“On #Ukraine, China takes an objective + fair position and stands on the side of peace & justice. The US is the main cause of the crisis in Ukraine & should therefore deeply reflect on its erroneous actions + stop creating a new cold war.”
It follows clashes near #NovayaKakhovka this evening. An anti aircraft missile hit the jet.
This information is not yet verified.
More weapons, including HIMARS, coming to #Ukraine from the U.S. soon said Pentagon spokesman John Kirby.

In occupied #Horlivka (#Donetsk region) it looks, and sounds, like Russian air defence is working
Day 1201 of Europe's war.
But the pre-conflict hybrid war has already been waging worldwide for years. Hacking, election interference, sabotage - we're all targeted by Russia, even if we don't all realise it yet.
Ukraine can stop the war criminal with our help.
Welcome to the🧵
Maybe Sunday will bless Ukraine with a quiet day?
Saturday was another full-on journalistic stint, catching sleep when I could.
Kharkiv shattered overnight then a daytime attack on a kids' railway.
Operation Web 2.0 & a factory hit in Russia.
It's all ⬇️
1/2 Early this morning, just before the end of the previous thread I showed the Azot chemical plant in Tula region on fire.
Not long afterwards, Ukraine hit another facility, this time in Russia-controlled 🇺🇦
This is the Hydromash factory in Melitopol' in occupied Zaporizhzhia.
Day 1194 of Putin's war, though let's remember the initial invasion came 11 years ago.
Since February 2014, not once have western sanctions or military support come close to being enough to restore justice and defeat evil.
Welcome to THE daily 🇺🇦 thread for Sunday 1 June
A new day, a new season. Summer officially started, but nothing is likely to change just yet.
Y'day's thread had some great stories, but everything paled into insignificance when justy before midnight came news of a disaster in Russia's Bryansk region:
Another night of no sleep yet - dramatic action in Moscow.
Time to start another daily thread covering everything to do with Putin's disastrous 'operation' in Ukraine.
It's 5am in Russia and Ukraine, on Day 1190 of the war.
Let's begin...
I've still NEVER missed even one day since the start of Russia's full invasion.
But yesterday's thread ended up being one of the most lively. Another near 50-post story of the day, and if you like seeing "bavovna" in Russia, go right through to the end!
Good morning on Day 1176 of the war in Europe.
In my opinion, Ukraine should have won this war in 2022/23.
Effective leadership is based on good, decisive decisions. Sadly, the allies have never been decisive, preferring dithering and half measures.
Welcome to my daily thread:
What I mean by dithering is endless internal political battles in most countries to give adequate weapons. Scholz (Taurus), Biden (everything) the most obvious examples, though Joe was hampered by Congress and is way better than now
But it's always enough to survive, not to win
If you missed anything from yesterday, catch up with this link to the start of yesterday's thread. Scroll down to where you got to and complete your knowledge!
