Welcome to the daily thread on #Russia's war for Friday.
It's Day 156 of the full invasion of #Ukraine.
All the most important news in real time, plus my analysis.
I try to answer all questions @ me, DMs open for tip-offs. If you have an urge to donate, see my profile. Thanks!
1/2 Every day #Ukraine publishes statistics for the losses suffered by #Russia. The Kremlin refuses to update any figures, presumably fearing kickback from the public as the "10 day war" drags on and on.
Below is today's updated estimate from🇺🇦 but there's another problem for🇷🇺
2/2
Even official data in #Russia for Jan-May 2022 show the population falling at record levels
430,000 fewer people were in Russia - the decline much worse than during Covid. Most war deaths won't even be in these figures - this is young people fleeing
British Intel looks again at the Wagner "private military contractors".
Its existence was for #Russia to have plausible deniability. Deaths not recorded as army deaths, no compensation due and Russia can avoid general mobilisation with promises of cash (or release from prison)
Plenty more death and destruction courtesy of #Russia overnight and this morning of course.
In #Mykolaiv 5 civilians have died and many more injured. Initial reports said 7 but locals say it's much higher. Separate strikes overnight & this morning.
#Ukraine's artillery had another successful night in #Kherson oblast.
#Russia bases or warehouses were targeted in #Chornobaivka#Oleshka and two hits in #NovaKakhovka. Meanwhile the railway station in #Brylivka was struck (video), denying another supply route for the invaders.
#Ukraine was also very active in #Donetsk region. They claim many occupiers were killed in a hit on a Russian military block in #Ilovaisk. With the history of this town, it will have been sweet for many of the Ukrainian servicemen and women.
Ukraine furiously denies the strike, saying the POWs have been executed.
Russia's released a gruesome video, I've edited this
About the above video, a lot of questions and comments. There are scenes of body parts and totally burned bodies.
Russia propaganda channels have "previous" for using cadavers in videos alleging Ukraine crimes. This too raises my suspicions.
#Ukraine demands UN investigation into mass murder of prisoners of war in #Olenivka.
It seems likely now many #Azovstal defenders are among the dead. Covering up their torture with another war crime looks ever more likely #RussiaIsATerroristState
President Zelenskyy visited #Odesa region today where #Ukraine grain will be allowed to leave via the Black Sea soon.
Representatives of the G7 nations were also present.
As I reported last week, #Chornomorsk should be the first to benefit with 3 ships leaving tomorrow.
"Miraculously" #Russia has "found" fragments of HIMARS rockets in the ruins of the prison in #Olenivka.
Of course no fragments of the US weapons have been found anywhere else and could not possibly have been moved there from Donetsk, Horlivka or any of the numerous other sites!
#Ukraine's Presidential adviser Oleksiy Arestovych confirms what I wrote in the immediate aftermath of the massacre at #Olenivka prison.
Some bodies already dead BEFORE the missile attack.
#Ukraine's Intelligence releases a recording of an intercepted phone call after the prison massacre in #Donetsk
"It's all bullshit, they themselves f*cked up the barracks, there were 200 people"

Following the "castration" of a🇺🇦 PoW, two more videos appeared, thought to be taken after the same incident.
They show the victim moaning with legs bound being shot in the head then his body dragged away
The vids look genuine, but too graphic for Twitter. Here are screenshots.
A #Kherson Telegram channel says a boat in the Dnipro river has today sunk near the damaged Antonivskyi Bridge.
This is completely unverified - even the channel itself concedes this.
Yesterday Russia's occupiers stole a private boat for military use after the bridge was closed!
Meanwhile looks like the Occupiers are moving a whole load of personnel/equipment to the front line in #Kherson. They're clearly worried about losing the city and know what a devastating, and embarrassing, blow it would be.
Many of these videos circulating:
The @ICRC have requested access to the site of the massacre in occupied #Donetsk.
Spokesman Oleksandr Vlasenko "We are of course aware of this situation and have requested access to this location as soon as possible in order to verify and see with our own eyes what happened."
Two civilians died today in another Russian attack on #Kramatorsk.
Five people were also injured when the residential building they were in was hit and caught fire.
It's causing problems for everyone around the world, all because of one man. But giving in, or ceding ground is like giving painkillers to someone with a curable disease. Moderate relief now but much worse pain later.
Here's the🧵
Britain's MOD is in positive mood today and so will all #Ukraine followers reading this.
The first news from #Kherson is not overly good for #Ukraine. Although the Antonivskyi bridge was hit, the structure still stands and is still passable.
#Russia's state new agency TASS says there is "no damage" which is highly unlikely.
#Odesa, #Kharkiv & #Mykolaiv among 🇺🇦 cities hit again overnight but not always with missiles designed for the job. The Kremlin orders more weapons out of "deep storage" and prepares for a #Ukraine counter attack in the south
Here's the🧵
1/2 First to those weapons on the move in #Russia.
It started with this video capturing what's believed to be
2S7 Pion heavy artillery being transported west.
They are Soviet machines, at the time state of the art high powered guns with a range of almost 50km,
2/2 Some excellent sleuthing on the internet found the source - a diminishing supply of stock.
Google Earth images show there were 170 of the Pions stored at this location in #Russia early April, down to 135 at the start of June; last week only 110 remaining.
Mayor of #Mykolaiv Oleksandr Sienkovych has not released further details yet about this morning's damage or any casualties. Rescue services are on site.
A bit of a landmark day as #PutinsWar reaches Day 150.
That's 146 days behind schedule (and counting) for the capture of #Kyiv 😂😂😂
This is the start of my daily thread with all the news about #Ukraine's defence and #Russia's aggression.

1/2
Quite a lot of Russian rocket attacks to report in #Ukraine already
Starting in #Kharkiv where war crimes investigators are on the scene after purely civilian infrastructure was hit this morning.
Apartments & a university in the centre of the city were struck.
