Thread: 11 September 2022: Day 200 of #Russia's invasion of #Ukraine
Latest @DefenceHQ update: #Ukraine has "continued to make significant gains in the Kharkiv region" over the last 24 hours. Also notes that #Putin has lied about exports of grain from Ukraine.
#Putin's warlord-president of #Chechnya, Ramzan Kayrov, coping very hard and threatening further conquests in #Ukraine. Interestingly, this comes after Kadyrov appeared to say he was resigning.
Thread. More troubles with the power at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, though it doesn't seem too much cause for alarm (yet). The backup systems are working (for now).
Positive signs that #Russia's partner in crime, #China, is being eased out in #Zambia.
#China's social media users dunking on #Russia for its calamity in #Ukraine.
Good thread. As ever, damaging #Russia is damaging #China.
Has indeed been a notable shift in emphasis from #Russia's propagandists, locating the source of their troubles in the Kremlin, rather than the West.
Embarrassing from @TheAge to host nonsense like this from Anthony Galloway.
Governor of Luhansk in eastern #Ukraine buoyant at the prospect of his Oblast being liberated from #Russia's occupation.
New statement from #Putin's warlord-president of #Chechnya, Ramzan Kayrov: less cope, more recognition of reality. Notable.
Yet more #Russian equipment captured by #Ukraine on the Kharkiv front
Kozacha Lopan, the Kharkiv Oblast, liberated by #Ukraine.
#Ukraine has taken more territory in the last five days than #Russia has managed in five months.

Since Ukraine threw back Russia's attempt to conquer her capital in March, the only real Russian gains were in Luhansk in June-July.
Part of what air defence is doing is shooting down its own jets. The sheer useless of #Russia's military machine at every level is just staggering.
It is done: the #Russians have completely collapsed in #Kharkiv Oblast, the provincial capital of which is #Ukraine's second city.
Drone footage of the #Russians fleeing over the Oskil River near Izyum in the #Kharkiv Oblast.
#Ukraine has captured a big cache of #Russian drones, and instructions for their use.
After shattering the #Russian lines in Kharkiv, #Ukraine has opened up the zones Moscow has held since 2014.
The #Russian soldiers remaining on the soil of the #Kharkiv Oblast are there to help their comrades and collaborators flee.
Construction of a "stab in the back myth" is well underway in #Russia: unclear if the Kremlin or the army will be playing the role of traitor
Excellent moving map here (albeit from 12 hours ago, before #Kharkiv was fully cleared of #Russian occupation forces)
#Ukraine uncovers evidence of the "Russification" effort in the schools in the zones occupied by #Russia.
#Chechnya's warlord-president Ramzan Kadyrov with a rare public statement out of line with #Putin.
#Ukraine's President Zelensky sends condolences to the #US on the anniversary of 9/11.
The Chief Rabbi of #Ukraine and some others are lobbying #France to lift sanctions on Moshe Kantor, the #Russian oligarch who previously served as president of the European Jewish Congress and who funded various Jewish groups in Europe. haaretz.com/world-news/202…
Video from Kozacha Lopan in the Kharkiv Oblast after liberation.
#Russia has, it seems, adopted "regrouping" as its official euphemism for "retreat" in Ukraine, which is worse than Biden's "retrograde" euphemism for his abandonment of Afghanistan.
#Russia firing missiles at #Ukraine's power grid - taking Kharkiv, Dnipro, Poltava, and other cities into darkness - in retaliation for the loss of Kharkiv Oblast, an action as pathetic as it is cruel.
A #Ukrainian gas station ablaze after attacks with #Russian missiles from Russian territory, likely Belgorod.
Powerful speech by #Ukraine's President Zelensky tonight: says that his country would rather be without gas, light, and food than accept #Russia's vision of Russians and Ukrainians as "one people" bound in "friendship and brotherhood".
Even though #Russia managed to attack #Ukraine's infrastructure tonight, it had intended to do much worse, but many of its missiles were intercepted.
#Russia's troops have fallen back from Svatove in the Luhansk Oblast in eastern #Ukraine.
It seems #Russia is considering removing Lt.-Gen. Roman Berdnikov as commander of the Western Military District. He was only appointed on 26 August. ukrainetoday.org/2022/09/11/res…
As a measure of how things are going >> #Putin's lead propagandist, Vladimir Solovyov, calls for the firing, prosecution and even execution of #Russia's military commanders responsible for the debacle in #Kharkiv. inforesist.org/ua/solovjov-za…
Helpful thread on the dynamics at work, notably: the sheer speed of #Ukraine's counter-offensive, too much for even #Russia's meagre reinforcements (like the 3rd Army Corps) to get into place, and Ukraine's escalating manpower and equipment advantages.
It's cruel, but #Russia doing this is another sign of how this is going: destroying infrastructure that makes life liveable is not the behaviour of a force that believes it can continue to occupy, let alone annex, these zones of #Ukraine.
On the 200th day of the war, #Ukraine's President Zelensky thanks all the branches of the Armed Forces, notably the special forces; the intelligence services; and the cyber army and military clergy that have helped the state resist #Russia's and destroy untold amounts of materiel
#Ukraine's President Zelensky thanks those using the Arta system to direct the HIMARS/etc. to such devastating effect against #Russia, aided by the enemy "violating the rules of fire safety" and adds, with a grin, that online advice has been offered: "Stop smoking everywhere".
"The world is impressed. The enemy is panicking. #Ukraine is proud of you", said President Zelensky, addressing the army in his speech tonight. Ukraine will press on to fully liberate its territory. #Russia "will call [its retreat] 'goodwill gestures'. We call it victory."
Strilecha in the Kharkiv Oblast has been liberated by #Ukraine, bringing the Ukrainian Army right up to the border with the #Russian-occupied Luhansk Oblast.
#Russia's fake referendums to "annex" the occupied zones of #Ukraine seem to have been indefinitely "postponed".
Poor Boris Nadezhdin: a sane man in an asylum. He does get some support here, though, albeit while regime stooges attack him for saying its "colonial war", when they believe it's a "global war" orchestrated by NATO and poor Russia is just caught up in it.
Fighters from #Ukraine's International Legion entering liberated Izyum in the Kharkiv Oblast
#Ukraine's Defence Minister thanks #Australia for sending equipment like the "Bushmaster" that helped make the liberation of #Kharkiv from #Russia's occupation possible.

Thread: 10 September 2022: Day 199 of #Russia's invasion of #Ukraine
Latest @DefenceHQ update takes note of #Ukraine's advances against #Russia in the Kharkiv Oblast, which the Russians had only lightly defended; there was also likely an element of surprise. The Ukrainians are pressing on in Kherson, too. Image
#Ukraine has liberated Kupyansk, the crucial city of #Russia's occupation administration in #Kharkiv. Her troops can be seen here in the city centre.

Thread: 5 September 2022: Day 194 of #Russia's invasion of #Ukraine
Latest @DefenceHQ update: #Russia's "main effort in #Ukraine almost certainly remains its Donbas offensive", rather than reinforcing against the counter-offensive in Kherson. Moscow has had "the most success" in Donetsk recently, but it is still advancing only 0.5 miles per week. Image
Horseshoe theory in action: "Progressive International" leader supporting the nationalist protests in #Czechia and their #Russia-friendly demands to cease support to #Ukraine and restore economic relations with Moscow. Image

Thread: 3 September 2022: Day 192 of #Russia's invasion of #Ukraine
Latest @DefenceHQ update: #Ukraine's "offensive operations" around #Russian-occupied Kherson advance "on a broad front". The operation has "limited immediate objectives", but exploits Russia's weaknesses, and forces Moscow into a choice over deployment of its stretched forces.
Essentially an "Honest Trailers" version of a Russian recruitment video.

Very interesting: Photograph surfaces from #Iran showing three of #Al_Qaeda's most important leaders: Sayf al-Adel, Abu Muhammad al-Masri, and Abu al-Khayr al-Masri. Picture must be from before 2015, when Abu al-Khayr left for Syria. Doesn't look much like house arrest, does it? ImageImage
