The blaze happened in the early hours today at the Polygon Cafe in the city, which is around 300km NW of #Moscow.
The horrific blaze in #Kostroma is not directly linked to the war. However it's not uncommon for appalling safety breaches in #Russia: corners cut with rampant corruption and so much money being pumped in to a pointless war.
Even with huge 'manpower' #Russia is finding throwing bodies at the war is not helping. Untrained, unarmed and demotivated soldiers don't make the best fighters😉
I think this video is a couple of days old, but saw it on a Telegram channel this morning.
It's the remains of the Spartak Sports Stadium in occupied #Kherson.
#Russia kept military equipment and air defences here until recently - #Ukraine did manage to land at least one hit.
An unpleasant site reported in occupied #Melitopol today.
It's not clear from this single photo, but locals say a Lenin monument has been erected. Like the signpost in #Donetsk, I posted yesterday, it won't last long!
Having been caught out with the remains of its killer drones in #Ukraine, the regime in #Iran finally admits it has given #Russia "kamikaze" Shahed-136s.
However, now they pretend they were only sent BEFORE the war started!
Still can't explain those frequent flights to Moscow!
It's difficult to be certain about territorial claims and gains in the "fog of war"
However, it's looking very likely now that #Ukraine's forces have pushed #Russia's troops back out of #Pavlivka in #Donetsk oblast. Big losses on both sides.
I reported a big attack by #Ukraine on Russian forces in #Svatove, but I don't even think anyone guessed how big.
Quoting survivors, Vyorstka media in #Russia says 500+ may have been killed, the rest were abandoned. Relatives in Voronezh protest outside local govt buildings
The previous video I have tried to get auto translated, not arrived yet - will post asap.
This was not a single strike, it was concerted artillery fire on the soldiers who were only mobilised 2-3 weeks ago; relatives say they were ill-equipped and abandoned by Commanders.
It's being reported by other media in #Voronezh that of 570 forcibly mobilised to the battalion, just 29 people survived, of whom 12 were wounded.
A fire at a school in western #Russia region looks suspicious to many #Ukraine media.
The Pestunovo village school in #Belgorod region has reportedly not been used for a while. Instead, the suspicion is it's been used to base mobilised recruits.
The news agenda is still dominated by one event in #Russia, where the first serious questions are being asked by "regular" (non liberal) families over military disasters.
It follows this wipeout of a new battalion of mobilised troops by #Ukraine's forces
It's 3am in #Mariupol where temps will dip to +2
While many other areas of #Ukraine don't have power, many residents in occupied Mariupol don't even have windows. Civilians still forced to live in ruined tower blocks, hang banners "Children freezing" & "Where are the windows"
The @IAEA has a busy day. The nuclear watchdog's report into #Russia's allegations of #Ukraine making a dirty bomb may be out today
But problems at the huge #Zaporizhzhia plant where the last power line's been cut by shelling today. Just 15 days' fuel left for backup generators
#Russia is so well resources and prepared for the winter phase of its war of choice, that it continues to beg, borrow & steal.
Occupied parts of #Ukraine plundered,
Iran providing food/drink and they & North Korea sending missiles, while #Belarus is giving vehicles says UK Intel
You know the format for the daily thread by now - all the news and analysis, throughout the day. And if you missed anything yesterday, take a peek here:
I saw this photo a few days ago on a busy day, so worth highlighting now. It really is remarkable the standard of some of #Ukraine's longer term bases created, and this isn't the only one just for the cameras.
I'll start with a couple of curious updates from stories which broke yesterday...
First the case of one of #Russia's richest men who gave up his citizenship saying he couldn't be a part of a fascist country.
But Oleg Tinkov, who now lives in London, has since deleted this post
Next I am concerned about what's happening to the ships which left #Ukraine's ports yesterday despite #Russia suspending its agreement in grain export.
A flotilla of grain-laden vessels seem to have all turned off transponders, either continuing incognito or anchored off 🇺🇦coast
A new week begins and a bit of a landmark day in #Russia's war as we reach Day 250.
This is the start of the 250th daily thread, with accurate news from #Ukraine. It's still strangely quiet so far, but if you missed yesterday's updates, here's the link:
#Ukraine's state energy company tells civilians there will be no quick end to power cuts.
Indeed, residents are warned rationing will continue throughout winter and may get worse if #Russia's strikes continue.
People are urged to always have essentials/power banks etc charged.
