1/ On the 5th anniversary of the Memorandum of Understanding on Migration btw Italy & Libya, @amnesty is call on Italian authorities NOT to renew this agreement which makes them complicit in the abuse & torture of asylum seekers in Libyan detention centres
2/. Since the MoU was signed in 2017,
100,000 people have been intercepted at sea & forcibly returned to #Libya

#Italy & the #EU have been helping the Libyan Coast Guard, providing financial support & technical assets

3/. The strategy of outsourcing of border control to Libya focuses on keeping people out of Europe

But #Libya doesn't have the capacity to coordinate rescues & people rescued at sea can’t legally be taken there due to the dire rights violations they there

2/. #Rainforestisland – a cornucopia of trees, plants & forest creatures – will be a platform for activists to gather throughout the #COP27 & is intended to amplify Indigenous voices who’ve yet again been excluded from their rightful place on the top table beside decision-makers.
3/. Indigenous communities have conserved & sustained our planet for thousands of years & are the true experts at protecting biodiversity

#RishiSunak was at the heart of the #HerdImmunityScandal

Every epidemiologist, virologist & scientist made clear that - without a vaccine - #HerdImmunity was an “outcome” never a “strategy”

On 21/9/20, Sunak & Johnson skipped a crucial SAGE meeting to meet two lockdown sceptics
At the Sept meeting that Sunak skipped, SAGE had advised a circuit-breaker lockdown

Scientists had also warned against #Sunak's Eat Out to Help Out scheme which is closely linked to rise in #COViD19 cases & likely helped trigger a rise in deaths among ethnic minority populations
After #Sunak & Johnson were briefed by the anti-lockdown sceptics, they ignored SAGE’s advice to:

1. introduce a circuit-breaker lockdown

2. close pubs, restaurants & gyms

3. stop households mixing in each other’s homes

4. stop face-to-face teaching at universities & colleges
