Welcome to the day known as "Two sleeps til Christmas" (unless you're Orthodox)

But no festive goodwill from Russia which continues its illegal war in #Ukraine

Day 303 and this is Friday's news thread.

If you missed yesterday click and scroll here:

Let's start with #RussiaOnFire and a couple of very interesting chapters to add today!

In #Moscow a blaze at a military unit. Baza reports the fire broke out in garage boxes at the base. I think a strong possibility of arson.

No injuries.
#StandWithUkraine
Meanwhile in #Saratov a return to attacks on Enlistment Offices.

The day after Putin uttered the word war, this happens.

If Russia does admit this is a war, it can enact TOTAL mobilisation and close borders.

#RussiaOnFire
London pours scorn on #Russia's announced plans to expand the army again.

However mandatory mobilisation would be one way to increase personnel.

#StopRussia
Another 550 dead Russians on Ukraine soil.

More landmarks approaching - APCs and Artillery Systems.

#RussiansGoHome (alive or in a box, your choice)
A lucky escape for two children in #Zaporizhzhia oblast.

A rocket hit their house and this wall collapsed on them, but the 3 and 15 year old boys escaped serious injury. It happened this morning in the village of Komyshuvakha.

#RussiaIsATerroristState
Kiitos Outi... and thank you John...
for their kindness in supporting what I do here each day.

All tips gratefully received, whether for coffee or story alerts, DMs open and I try to answer all questions.

#StopRussia
There's a little propaganda in this article I saw in Ukrainian media. However, I do agree that #Russia's economy is in danger of falling off a cliff edge in the next few months, and it may have already started (Google translates it well)

Another car bomb explodes in #Melitopol'
It has happened right in the centre, near the park according to multiple sources.
No further details yet on who the target is/was.

It's getting mighty hot for the Occupiers there now.
#SlavaUkraini
Also hot for #Russia's invaders in nearby #Tokmak.

This new footage just in from overnight hits on the Occupiers in the town in the part of #Zaporizhzhia oblast controlled by Moscow.
President @ZelenskyyUa has posted a message from his office in #Kyiv to show he is back home after the trip to USA and a stop off in Poland (to switch to train or car)

So no visit to London yet, which was talked about.

Zelenskyy wishes everyone good health and on to victory!
First picture of the car bomb blast in occupied #Melitopol'

#Israel's secret service says #Iran will step up weapons supplies to #Russia as well as continue its Uranium-enrichment programme.

Netanyahu back in power... but will the most right-wing govt ever finally fully back Ukraine and denounce Russia?

dw.com/ru/glava-mossa…
Reuters reports that #PutinsChef Yevgeniy Prigozhin spends more than $100 million a month on fighting #Ukraine

#Wagner has 50k there, 10k contract soldiers and 40k convicts recruited from Russian jails

The only income is from Putin. Imagine if this money was spent on hospitals!
Still power problems for millions in #Ukraine.

The national grid company Ukrenergo says the deficit is reducing, but the gap is still large between demand and production.

Another #RussiaOnFire story in #Moscow and another "misfortune" at a security services base.

This time a fire at the hated OMON building of the Russian Guard in #Moscow. Officials say "a fire broke out on the 7th floor in a room for storing bulletproof vests"

Likely sabotage!
A couple of projects I worked on banned the use of Chinese mobiles for security reasons.

Now it's reported (By @nytimes) that TikTok owner ByteDance admits its employees illegally obtained data of a number of users of the social network, including two journalists.
UPDATE:
Two FSB agents have been seriously injured in the car bomb attack by Ukraine partisans in #Melitopol

They are said to be seriously injured, so a high chance both are already dead.

The explosion caused by an IED, happened next to Gorky Park in the town centre.
At a time when #Ukraine is receiving more weapons from allies than ever before, #Putin mouthpiece Peskov was asked about the goal of 'demilitarising Ukraine'

Rolex boy said “we can state there is significant progress along this path”

I assume negative progress?😂😂
A short video from the scene of the car bomb blast in #Melitopol where it's thought at least one FSB officer has been killed by #Ukraine Partisans.
#Russia has fired the Head of the #Veydelevsky district in #Belgorod, it seems they may suspect collaboration with #Ukraine

After repeated rocket strikes, Anatoly Tarasenko is "being checked by the security forces" according to Governor of the region, Vyacheslav Gladkov.
Air alert over all of eastern and central #Ukraine, including #Kyiv

Paying special attention to these warnings right now after the report that another mass missile attack from #Russia is highly likely today.

Maritime traffic near Crimea has been warned to stay clear until 27/12
Two people have died in #Kherson as the wanton destruction continues

#Russia hit the city this morning with anti-aircraft missiles. According to reports both infrastructure and residential buildings were hit.

#RussiaIsATerroristState
In #Kherson, local channels claim they're under attack from incendiary devices.

#Russia is firing on the city again and a fire has broken out at the site of one arrival.

#RussiaIsATerroristState
In #Skadovsk, in #Kherson region, but under 80km from #Crimea, reports of explosions.

Occupiers' bases have frequently been hit in the coastal town. More and more stories of military taking over tourist hotels and resorts as bases and also emergency hospitals.
One member of the Foreign Legion fighting for #Ukraine, releases a video of the "hell on earth" that #Bakhmut (RU: #Artemovsk) has become.
Free #Kherson continues to be pummeled.
Fire after an explosion.

#StandWithUkraine
And earlier in #Kherson authorities released a video of damage to a local school/lyceum which was struck yesterday by #Russia's heavy artillery.

#RussiaIsATerroristState
Over 100 Russians are complaining after being told they have 5 days to close their accounts with the National Bank of Georgia.

No official reason is given, but there seems to be a new policy in place.
The IAEA says it is ready to place permanent missions at all #Ukraine's nuclear power plants, as well as in the area of the Chornobyl plant and exclusion zone.

In the west #Ukraine city of #Chernivtsi, close to the border with #Romania, the last statue to a Russian figure has been dismantled.

As the poet Pushkin was taken away in pieces, the Mayor Roman Klychkuk said "We have enough heroes of our own."
A well known Ukrainian TV/Film director has died on the battlefield.

Oleg Bobalo was killed in fighting for #Bakhmut. He joined up in the first days of the war.

Oleg produced the series "Mamochki" (mums) as well as film such as "Like Cossacks", "They ended the war" + "Alpinist"
The sad irony is that this is #Bakhmut's (RU: #Artemovsk) College of Culture and Arts.

Another building destroyed by Russia's targeting of any building still standing in the centre of the frontline town in #Donetsk.

#RussiaIsATerroristState
Due to the energy crisis in #Kyiv, all trams and trolleybuses are being stopped.

Regular buses will run instead on all routes and the metro is still working too, with 50 of the 52 stations open.
World leading architect Lord Norman Foster is continuing his work with #Kharkiv city leaders.

The Briton is giving his time and skills for free in redesigning #Ukraine's second city after it was shattered by #Russia.

Lord Foster plans no skyscrapers, 6-7 storeys max.
Quite a lot of shelling today in occupied #Donetsk. Mostly in the morning and then a few more so far this evening.

This used to be a hardware store in the Kyivskyi district.
#Ukraine Telegram channels report air defence and explosions on #Crimea.
This is said to have been filmed near an oil depot in the village of Razlyvy in the east of the occupied territory.

For the record I'm not convinced this is from Crimea.
#RussiaOnFire - and once again in #Moscow

At the "All-Russian Institute of Light Alloys" a big warehouse caught light. Propane and acetyl gas cylinders ensured there was quite a spectacle for locals.
The next #RussiaOnFire is more tragic.

13 people have died in a blaze at what's said to be an illegal nursing home.

The 2nd floor of the building in #Keremovo was completely destroyed by fire. 20 guests were rescued.
Officials say the cause was "improper use of a furnace"
Unconfirmed: #NovaKakhovka

In the occupied part of #Kherson it's being reported that a fresh batch of mobilised troops arrived from #Russia.

They've been greeted with missiles said to have struck a camp in Nova Kakhovka

Day 1301 of Ukraine fighting for its survival. The right to be free, speak their own language, worship in their own churches, to learn their own history.

A history of long suppression by Russia.
As war crimes grow daily, the words "never again" don't seem to apply.
Here's the🧵
Yesterday began, and ended, with Russia attacking Zaporizhzhia, injuring civilians.

Also, the head of the IAEA disgraced himself in Russia's arms, changes of 🇺🇦army leadership, and how a Russian guy was a Putin opponent, until 3 mins after being elected.

First though a breaking news after a number of morning attacks by Russia, particularly in Kyiv region.

Day 1300 of Putin's war.
Another 100 days of fighting completed.
We are no nearer peace than we were 100 days ago.

Almost 200 days ago Trump demanded a 30-day unconditional ceasefire.
Not surprising as he started it, it's always Putin stopping peace.

Here's Monday's daily🧵
If you were busy over the weekend, click the link to see all Sunday's stories.

It was a day when Ukraine had to quickly repair a main railway line after a massive explosion, but they also managed to make multiple hits on Russia's rail and oil industries

The overnight bombardment from Russia remained lower than usual, although 84 drones and 3 S-300 missiles caused a fair bit of damage on 'soft' targets

With 59 UAVs stopped, that's a 70% success rate.
None of the missiles was intercepted either

The 28 hits occurred in 13 places Image

Day 1299 - the daily thread starts here, covering all things to do with the illegal invasion of Ukraine by its demonic neighbour.

Plenty to catch up on due to the late start today.
So no time to waste, let's go...
Apologies for the much later start than intended, due to a few technical issues, as well as Dad's Taxi being booked for a rescue mission😂

Before we look at today's events, here's the link back to Saturday's thread:

At the end of yday's thread, I wrote about what was a probable Russian strike on Kyiv's railway.

Ukraine's Gen Staff doesn't say it was an attack but admits a "detonation of ammunition on a train carrying military cargo"

Accidents happen, but either way it's a clear blow.

Hello on Day 1298 of Russia's full invasion of its sovereign neighbour. So, only 1295 days late in fulfilling the boast of taking Kyiv in 3 days. #EATP for Putin.

I've compiled a🧵every single day without fail.
You can help my work with a boost, comment, re-post or a coffee🙏
Friday saw more important visitors arrive in Kyiv (and another familiar place is in Ukraine today).

There was more solidarity and practical support, while Russia suffered more oil woes.

If you missed anything, click and scroll here:

I'll start in Odesa, because that's where the familiar face has turned up.

He was planning to return to Ukraine a couple of weeks ago, but couldn't make it, but now Boris is back.
Loved by nearly all Ukrainians, his early arrival (with Lord Ashcroft) meant he avoids the crowds. Image

Hello once again on Friday 12 September 2025.

Day 1297 of Russia's imperialist war, but the senior bully keeps being given a bloody nose by the junior school kid next door. How embarrassing for the "world's second greatest army" and more 'punches' thrown by Ukraine overnight..
There was so much in yesterday's thread.

Russia hitting churches, Ukraine striking a boat.
The US helping Belarus, which helps🇷🇺 & Trump questioning if the drone attack on Poland was a mistake.
Thursday ended with a Ukraine drone surge into Russia:
It was busy at Kyiv's main railway station this morning with two VIP arrivals making unannounced visits.

Prince Harry accepted a request to return to Ukraine saying "we have to keep (the war) at the forefront of people's minds."

Poland's FM @sikorskiradek hopped off soon after Image

Day 1296 of Russia's genocidal war in Ukraine, welcome to THE daily thread for Thursday 11 Sept.

My thoughts today are with all Americans on the 24th anniversary of a sickening terrorist attack, born of hatred.

It seems we learned little. A cycle of violence has to end.
Some may accuse me of hypocrisy, and that's fine, it's their right in a free world.

My strongest criticism is reserved for leaders who spread lies, try to brainwash and use people instead of helping them.

I don't hate all Russians, though I detest what the country has become.
If ever the U.S. and the free world needed to be unified, it is now, just like we were 24 year ago.

Russia is an existential threat to Ukraine even existing, but also to the way of life of all of us.

Yesterday was momentous, read the thread:
