Welcome to the daily thread for Sunday 12 February.
It's Day 354 of the #RussiaUkraineWar and all the news and analysis you need is here in one handy thread.
If you missed something yesterday, click and scroll here:
Today's data show another 900 deaths for #Russia but also noteworthy figures of tanks and artillery systems destroyed - both well above the daily mean.
A little mystery in yesterday's thread is solved.
I heard nothing more confirmed about what happened to #Russia's drones which were on their way to #Zaporizhzhia oblast from the Sea of Azov area.
#Ukraine's army now say they did shoot down 1 Orlan-10 UAV and 4 Iranian "Shahids"
It's quiet so far regarding events in #Ukraine, but that's great news - especially for the residents of #Kyiv for whom it's a special day.
Today there are NO planned power restrictions for the first time in many months.
It's partially to gauge consumption, problems aren't over.
There will be a loud explosion in #Kyiv today, but don't worry.
As it's quiet, thought I'd include this video for you, especially interesting if you don't live in a cold country. This flooding has been caused by the river freezing over downstream.
So later they will bomb the ice
This time tomorrow, all being well, I will be in #Brussels.
It's finally time for the live premiere of my new documentary about #Ukraine. You can read a little more about it here.
A 2-time Olympian Vladimir Tuganov has switched nationality to try to compete at the Paris24 @Olympics
He is now a 'Palestinian' says head coach of #Russia's equestrian team Vladimir Beletsky. “He doesn't have time to calmly wait for Russia's return to international competition"
Also cos it's quiet, a chance to highlight another Russian who is actively campaigning against the war.
Artist 'Canary' released new works which protest groups are being urged to use on leaflets in #Russia.
Canary's exhibition "Pain" recently opened in #Tblisi
No confirmation from either #Russia or #Ukraine.
While Prigozhin is desperate to remain relevant and has exaggerated claims previously, it's not a shock if true, it was just a case of when #Ukraine would fall back.
Not having control of the skies in #Bakhmut is the real problem for #Ukraine. They've shot down quite a few but every day #Russia's fighters fly over.
Ukrainians still hold most of the higher positions around the towns such as #KrasnaHora, which is a bigger worry for Putin.
A few more drones annoying southern #Ukraine right now. However, unconfirmed reports that one may have crashed near occupied #Melitopol' before reaching the free part of the country.
IOC chief continues to back Russia despite 36 nations saying they don't want Terrorist States at @Olympics
Thomas Bach "history will show who's doing more for peace. The ones who try to keep lines open, or the ones who want to isolate or divide."
#Hladkivka in #Kherson region is still occupied.
But the Resistance movement remains strong and the #Ukraine's flag flew for much of the day in the village around 30km south of Kherson.
Thanks so much @Hopeful11212715 for buying me a coffee. I'll definitely be grabbing that at the airport in about 7 hours.
Hopeful donated via the ko-fi link in my profile here on Twitter 💙💛
#Ukraine air force says the earlier alert about drones was in fact just a single Russian reconnaisance UAV, which had several ballons attached with corner reflectors.
The drone is thought to have already been shot down by "East" command.
Explosions confirmed near #Kramatorsk. Cause not known but seems very likely incoming shells.
This was near #Druzhivka.
Reported shelling in nearby #Sloviansk, but I have not seen any confirmation of this reading local chat sites.
Elsewhere in #Donetsk, #Ukraine's army will refuse to allow access to #Bakhmut from tomorrow, even for volunteers. A new special pass will be needed to enter.
Day 355 of the brutal war started by #Russia on its peaceful neighbour. Very nearly 10 years since the first invasion of #Ukraine and the world did nothing, hoping the aggression would stop. The world did the same after Georgia. Nothing stopped. Dictators don't stop voluntarily
I'm tweeting from Manchester airport ahead of the Premiere of my new film "Ukraine: A War On Two Fronts" in Brussels this lunchtime.
I should be able to post a link to the live stream here a little nearer the time.
Before I go any further, immense thanks to Scott Vierling for the very generous donation via Ko-Fi which I saw when the alarm clock went off far too early!
Thanks to everyone for all support, be it cash, encouragement or tip-offs.💙💛
Day 353 of the war in Europe. #Ukraine fights for a nation, for liberty, in the name of democracy. #Russia fights for a small man in a bunker breaking, committing war crimes.
Here's yet another daily🧵 all the news in one place.
Hello and welcome to the daily thread about #Ukraine and its defence against #Russia's illegal invasion.
This is Day 352 since last February's all out attack, but now very nearly 9 years since the original invasion. The more the west did nothing, the bolder Putin became:
If you missed anything on Thursday's thread, click and scroll here.
It was particularly telling when a Russian protest group managed to find out #Russia, once cameras has gone, stole back fur coats they'd given to grieving relatives for their losses:
Last night there was a drone wave sent in to Ukraine territory and as I wrote at the time it could well be the precursor to another full missile attack.
That does seem to be happening now with launches detected and mass devastation and death again a possbility for the innocent
Here is my daily thread number 351 on the #Russia-#Ukraine war. One for each day of the war.
News and analysis of all events covering #Putin's illegal war.
Yesterday's thread was limited by Twitter.
I (and most others) were unable to post after 9.30pm UK time. #StandWithUkraine
In case you were wondering about that tweet which couldn't be loaded, I found it quite amusing as Chancellor Scholz went straight past his flag and to the #Ukraine lectern before being corrected by Zelenskyy!
President @ZelenskyyUa is now arriving in #Brussels to meet EU officials as he continues his mission to get fighter aircraft for #Ukraine.
We've had almost a year now and it really angers me that no-one foresaw this. We never truly protected Ukraine as Russia controls the skies.
We've reached day 350 of #Russia's insane war on #Ukraine
Here's another daily thread.
Tense scenes at the front with pressure mounting on #Bakhmut every hour, but fewer attacks in the rest of Ukraine. #Kharkiv was shelled last night, you can recap here
Hello and welcome to day 349 of #Russia's war of choice.
#Ukraine still defends valiantly, but the west's tardiness to act has placed them under severe pressure for the next 6 weeks until trained troops return with some new toys.
All the news in one thread, read on...
First the link to yesterday in case you were busy or just want a summary.
A lot of flim flam was written but actually you missed very little. Here's one of the shortest threads of the last 11 months so far:
