Hello and welcome to the daily thread for Friday, with all the news on #Ukraine's defence of its homeland and indeed existence, against #Russia's aggression.
It's Day 401, with all the news you need!
Missed something on Thursday? Click and scroll here:
I'll start with #Russia's losses on the battlefield (as estimated by #Ukraine)
Numbers still well done on peaks. A number of factors: awful weather, and highly likely the invaders are short on cattle/soldiers and ammo meaning fewer attacks across the frontline.
9 missiles were fired at Kharkiv, two hitting private housing...
2/4
#Russia also hit a gas station in #Kharkiv's Novobavar district and a military unit and pre-trial detention centre. #Ukraine says three people were injured, which may hide the truth.
There was also a "mass drone attack" on critical infrastructure facilities near #Izium.
3/4 In #Zaporizhzhia (RU: #Zaporozhye) rocket propelled grenades rained down on the centre and suburbs.
An "agricultural enterprise" was hit by #Russia along with some private houses.
#Ukraine's Defence Minister hints the push-back against #Russia is close.
@oleksiireznikov told the EU "We are preparing for a counteroffensive operation, so Ukraine needs, first of all, heavy equipment and prepared reserves."
Many #Ukraine media are linking the country's ex-President with a smuggling scandal.
Authorities in #Romania found contraband cigarettes in a vehicle belonging to @poroshenko's company Roshen, according to leaks to the media. €1m tax was avoided
But would Poroshenko risk this?
A stand-off continues at the holy Lavra site in #Kyiv
Priests actively block doors and here one #Moscow-aligned "religious" person started spraying journalists and bystanders with "holy" water.
#Belarus' illegitimate president Lukashenka has called for a "truce" in #Ukraine.
Now, given big Alex isn't allowed to fart without Putin's permission, these are clearly Putin's words. It's almost like Bunker Boy and his Kremlin chums are frightened of something?😅🔥😉
Earlier today two civilians were injured in missiles strikes in #Orikhiv.
Two rockets hit the Orihivsky REM enterprise in the #Polohiv district of #Zaporizhzhia.
Vehicles and buildings were damaged.
Wimbledon bows to the inevitable and confirms players from terrorist states #Russia and #Belarus will be allowed to compete in this year's Grand Slam tennis event.
Signs that support for the war is fading in #Russia.
The Levada Centre, the only respected research company in the Russian Federation, showed 41% strongly in favour of the war, down from 48% a month ago. But only 20% are against the war.
President Zelenskyy seems to have lost patience with #China. President Xi has still not made contact with #Ukraine since meeting Putin.
Zelenskyy says "this is one of the leaders who hesitates. This should have been an example for the whole world" to condemn aggression.
Amazingly generous, thank you @drop_the_world
for supporting me via the Ko-Fi link in my profile.
Thanks for the nice words too, I'm very happy you trust and enjoy the daily threads.💙💛
#France's fencing federation has refused to host a Men's Epee World Cup event in May.
1/2 I've had a lot of replies about @Wimbledon's decision to allow players from #Russia and #Belarus.
I said it was inevitable because the LTA was in an impossible position. There was the very real threat of losing Grand Slam status. Even losing ranking points really hurts...
2/2 .. some players from other countries would not bother turning up and then you lose sponsorship and a whole lot of other income. The whole of tennis in the UK would be in jeopardy.
My info is the Govt forced Wimbledon to enact the ban last year, but accepted the 2023 change.
A huge boost for #Ukraine in the last hour as the IMF approved a $15.6 billion hand-out.
It is designed for 4 years, with the cash being used to support reforms and integration of Ukraine into the EU as well as easing urgent needs of the people during war.
Welcome to Daily Thread number 399 with all the important news of #Russia's illegal war in #Ukraine.
However don't forget that it's over 3,300 days since the first invasion of sovereign Ukrainian territory by Putin. Had the West acted decisively then this wouldn't have happened.
... and leading on from that, if we fail to act decisively now or "seek peace" on the wrong terms, we will face another war and a larger crisis a few further years down the line.
Better late than never. We must support #Ukraine until Russia stops all aggression.
Plenty of news yesterday, including #France recognising #Holodomor as genocide, the IOC President desperately trying to stay friends with Uti-Puti and an armed assault on a police station in a southern republic in #Russia.
#Russia's forward momentum in #Ukraine appears to have stalled and splits and tensions are starting to show among the illegal invaders, from the top down.
Here's another daily thread with #Ukraine news updated throughout the day.
As usual, here's a handy link to yesterday's thread for those who missed anything, such as some tasty fires, a kicking 'priest' and sadly, more war crimes and devastation.
