1/ Let us come to equity with clean hands. The ENTIRE political class is the same. Age doesn't limit anyone from doing damage.
2/ This is the reason why I said, in this interview, signalng.com/116819 that the "Not too young to run" thing is a waste of time.
3/ Let's begin by trying to understand why we are where we are.
4/ We are where we are because power is heavily concentrated in the centre, making everyone look to Abuja and ignore the units.
5/ While everyone ignores the units, small rats take power in the units, amass wealth and grow into immovable objects.
6/ Note that when they come in as small rats, they are typically young. Think the chap in Kogi as an example.
7/ His youth has not prevented him from being arguably the worst governor in the current set. This blows the age theory out of the water.
8/ Another lesson that should be learned from our distant and recent history is emotional intelligence.
9/ In our distant past, we fought a war. The leader of Nigeria at the time, had some emotional intelligence, hence NVNV.
10/ Now, NVNV wasn't well implemented, but, it papered over the cracks, and helped bring a semblance of reconciliation.
11/ Contrast with our recent past...
12/ Elections, by their nature, are deeply divisive. It behoves the winner of any fractious contest, to unite the people afterwards.
13/ Think Gowon and NVNV, at least he made an effort. After 2015, Buhari failed, spectacularly, to unite Nigerians.
14/ This recent history should tell us that looking at a divisive or controversial character in 2019 will be a massive error.
15/ So, no to El Rufai.
16/ But even at that, is Atiku the answer? I do not believe he is. He wants it too much, and that is concerning.
17/ But, Atiku would be more of a unifier than El Rufai, that I am certain of.
18/ To be clear however, like I said yesterday, it is too early to be talking 2019. There is an entire campaign season ahead.
19/ Deciding who will be on the ballot, and how they get there, are far more important than this joke we are involved in.
20/ Simple and short, if we fail to properly look at the exercise, we'll be left holding the short end of the stick, again.
