I think we need to be careful of how we respond when people say #Imtired about racism, especially in the church...#thread
Sometimes when you say #Imtired, people wrongly think you’re giving up on the work of building interracial/ethnic relationships altogether
To say #Imtired because of racism does not mean you have abandoned the project of working toward the beloved community. It means it’s hard.
Sometimes when you say #Imtired people immediately tell you that you shouldn’t be tired because there’s always hope.
Yes, there's hope, but when you lose a battle, or even win one,it's exhausting. That doesn’t mean you’ve given up hope it means you're human
Sometimes when you say #Imtired people already think you talk about race too much & say, “See! This is the problem with talking about race."
Denying a problem tends to make it worse, so avoiding issues of race won't address the #Imtired feeling; it could exacerbate it.
Let's not set up a paradigm where people can't feel feelings. Even if that feeling is #Imtired. It's legit and justified.
When people think they can't be tired or weak, they pretend they are perfect and put forth a lie. These kinds of things kill the soul.
Instead, let's practice self-care to endure the #Imtired moments. Laugh out loud. Sleep. And never, ever go it alone. Community counts.
