Some tweets. What the Repeal Bill is for, and why it doesn't matter if it gets through parliament or not.

The Repeal Bill is a Bill of powers. It allows the government to rewrite the law as it thinks and without reference to parliament.

And the government wants that power because they don't know what laws they're going to change or in what way.

However the law does need rewriting will depend on what our final relation with Europe turns out to be. Which at the moment they don't know.

So they're asking for the powers to rewrite the law in any way they choose, which allows them to negotiate freely with Europe

because whatever they agree with Europe can go straight into law without reference to anyone else.
So that's what the Bill is for.

However, that's not the real problem. The real problem is the assumption the Tories have made about the whole Brexit negotiations.

Like I've said all along, the Tories never meant to leave Europe. They only ever meant it as a way of modifying the terms of our membership.

And they have staked our country, our economy, and not to mention the Irish peace process, on that gamble. Or fraud. Or whatever you call it

Anyway, they've misused the Article 50 process to try to trick Europe into rewriting all its treaties however the Tories choose.

The whole thing has been about treaty change. Not leaving Europe at all but dictating special terms of membership. Like we said before.

So their whole scheme depends on two things.

1. Europe giving us a new treaty without us ever having to actually leave.

2. parliament giving them the power to rewrite the law to accommodate whatever new treaty Europe happens to agree.

In Theresa May's head - because I can see into stupid people - it really is that simple. Europe and parliament give her what she wants.

So Theresa May, sitting in Downing Street, gets to rewrite the laws of the European Union and the laws of the United Kingdom, all by herself

This is the spoilt child we've got. She has gone into the world and expects everyone, every country, everywhere, to do what she says.

I mean, they could make her Emperor of the World and then she could rewrite everyone's laws for the entire planet.

She is a spoilt child who has never been taught the word No before. Which is why she is now having so much trouble understanding it

Parliament and the Conservative Party are pathetic jelly that might very well give her everything she wants.
But Europe will not.

As far as Europe is concerned, Brexit involves only the termination of our membership. Not a new special membership. Extinction.

And the Tories have no way of coping with that. There's going to have to be a border with Ireland somewhere, and there's nowhere it can go.

They'll never allow a border within Ireland itself. That is an absolute No. And the DUP will never allow it in the Irish Sea.

So the whole thing depended on Europe allowing Theresa May and her clowns to use the Article 50 process to stay in Europe.

But to stay in Europe on the very special terms that Theresa May cooked up in her own head. Rewrite the whole European Union for her.

But they're not going to let her do that. And let's be honest, none of us would let her do that either. You don't indulge spoilt children.

Theresa May can't just stamp her feet and demand the entire planet do what she says and throw away everything it's spent decades working on.

The Conservative Party might indulge her, even Parliament all together might. But the European Union will not.

Theresa May will have a tantrum. And then she will be removed from office. And then the Conservative Party will have to apologise for her.

We will end up staying in the European Union because it is impossible for us to leave. But the Tories are going to embarrass us all first.

And you know what, we deserve that international embarrassment because our behaviour has been that of a spoilt child.

Like I said, you could have dealt with this the easy way or the hard way. You've chosen to do it the hard way. Fine. The ending is the same.

England has got some growing up to do.
